Real Madrid, Barcelona top soccer's richest clubs

REAL Madrid and Barcelona are soccer's biggest moneymakers for the third straight year and look set to out-earn their rivals for the foreseeable future. The annual review of football finance by Deloitte shows Madrid topping the list for the seventh straight year with revenue of 480 million euro ($A591 million) to the year ending June 30, an increase of nine per cent on the previous 12 months.
English champions Manchester United were again in third place with 367 million euro ($A453 million), the highest of four English clubs in the top-10 earners. Germany's Bayern Munich were fourth with 321 million ($A396 million), with Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Schalke next.
One more year at the top for Madrid would equal United's No.1 streak from 1997-2004 but the accountancy firm says on-field success could yet push Barcelona into first place next year.

Barcelona trail Madrid by seven points in the Spanish league but their revenue increased 13 per cent to 451 million euro ($A556 million) and it could rise further if the team retain the Champions League title.
Defending Spanish and European champions Barcelona receive about 30 million euro ($A37 million) per season in a sponsorship deal from the Qatar Foundation and earned 51 million euro ($A63 million) from the Champions League, beating United 3-1 in last season's final at Wembley Stadium.
It can already count on 3.5 million euro ($A4.3 million) towards next year's total after winning FIFA's Club World Cup in December.
''This may allow it to narrow, or even bridge, the gap to Real,'' Deloitte sports business group partner Dan Jones said.
''However, relative on-pitch performance, particularly in the Champions League, may determine next year's top two Money League placings.''
United is certain to trail again next season after their early elimination from this season's Champions League, only the second time they have failed to progress from the group stage in 16 seasons.
Tottenham rose above Manchester City to 11th place following their run to the quarter-finals in their debut Champions League campaign, but City could leapfrog their English rivals next year after six matches in this season's group stage.
Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Napoli are newcomers in the top 20, replacing Atletico Madrid, Stuttgart and Aston Villa after a season of greater domestic success.
French champions Lille were the only winner of one of Europe's five major leagues - Spain, England, Italy, Germany and France - not to make it into a top 20 entirely composed of European sides.
Deloitte said Brazilian clubs Corinthians and Sao Paulo, with reported revenues of between 70 million euro ($A86 million) and 80 million ($A99 million), would only make a top-50 list.

If they ever released a list based on profit and not just revenue, only the German clubs would make the cut from this list.

You must be proud BulldogForce. If they ever enforce FFP you would need a new team.

Stealing money at the expense of 18 other Spanish teams, proud times.

Am I proud of supporting my team? You betcha!

As for FFP, UEFA believe it's the way of the future. So to answer your second question, time will tell, TT. And FTR, if the unthinkable did ever happen, I will NEVER support any other team!

We're the 5th richest club on the planet, ahead of the likes of Chelsea, City and Liverpool. We have two multi billionaires as our owners. And yet Wenger is forced to make a profit on transfers.

Kroenke disgusts me.

This doesn't mean the richest, the stats are about revenue
City surely has more money than Arsenal, Liverpool and other teams ahead of them here (perhaps not Real Madrid)

But yes, I'd be annoyed too at the little money Wenger spends.

There are things you have to look out for with Revenue though.

First is the exchange rate has effected UK based clubs when things are reported in Euros, it makes them no t look as good.

Second, clubs like Real Madrid handle there own merchandise. This means that there Revenue is a lot higher but the expenses that go along with it are also higher effecting profits.

Clubs like United get a lump sum of Nike and Nike get the revenue and expenses from merchandise selling. So the Revenue may be lower, but the profits are just as great.

Our 2nd biggest shareholder is a russian who is richer than Abramovich. Our majority shareholder is another multi billionaire.

So it's unjustifiable that teams that earn less revenue spend more than us.

We have the means to compete financially with every club besides City, Real and Barca. And yet we don't.

And it's not Wengers fault. He's said he's been told he has to earn a profit from transfers. It's Kroenkes fault.

That's just not true. Arsenal have had that policy for years, way before Kroenke became a key figure in the boardroom.
