Andy Raymond rips into the AFL

I watched the Broncos v Storm in full, plus the first and last quarters of the Suns v Lions and both were highly entertaining sporting contests. It's hard to understand how some people can be so close minded that they can't enjoy more than one sport...

Storm v Warriors could actually rate okay down here if given a chance. Forget about the Roosters game though, it wouldn't rate even 5% of what the Essendon v Collingwood game gets in Melbourne. Consistent coverage of Storm games is the starting point.

    Rounds 16 & 17

How many Souths games would you want to be scheduled on Friday nights if it meant the telecasts would begin after midnight in Sydney as well as in your local area?

    Rounds 16 & 17

Why exactly would you want Storm games shown on Friday nights then, if Sydneysiders care less about them than local clubs, and the actual fan base of the club would be prevented from seeing the game (Unless they wish to stay up until 2am that is)

Part of the reason the AFL currently provides less subscriptions is because all games played by non-Victorian teams are guaranteed FTA broadcast into their home state. E.g. in Perth all 22 Eagles and Dockers home games are on FTA, therefore there is little incentive for fans of those teams to...

    Rounds 16 & 17

How long is it going to take people to realise that Melbourne Storm's administration and fan base DO NOT WANT any Friday night games unless the NRL/Nine guarantee live coverage which is something they are not prepared to do. Scheduling Storm games for Friday night games then showing the...

    Crowd Watch 2011

Why do people set their expectations so low? Crowds under 10k aren't acceptable in any conditions - the Swans v Geelong game at the SCG tonight still managed to get 25k, so why are Sydney NRL fans so scared of a little rain? It's a winter sport!

If Seven got the rights to both AFL and NRL Friday Night Footy, they would win the ratings every week by a country mile. NRL live on 7 in Syd/Bris, 7mate in Mel/Ade/Per AFL live on 7 in Mel/Adel/Per, 7mate in Syd/Bris The only losers would be old fogies whose Friday night Better Homes and...

Hell has frozen over!!! Live Footy in Melbourne!!!

I could see this game rating reasonably in Melbourne for a few reasons: The AFL match is on a one hour delay, is between 2 teams with very low support, and likely to be a blow-out where the result could be already known before the telecast starts. The factor working against the NRL is the...

Friday Night Football - please show different teams

The Storm have specifically requested not to be scheduled on Friday night games as Channel Nine will be sure to broadcast them after midnight, which is detrimental to promoting the code in Melbourne. Monday night is probably one of the better timeslots for Storm games.

    Shame on you 9

Senator Conroy has granted a one-off exemption to allow the AFL to show the season opener live on One HD this Thursday night. Anyone who is actually considering complaining about this has serious issues. If you don't like AFL, don't watch it - doesn't mean actual fans of the league in the...

    Shame on you 9

Nine will probably take advantage of the new laws to show a movie or CSI on 9 while State of Origin is relegated to GO!

I'd agree with you there seeing as they aren't in the comp this season! But my point is - even if Swans and GWS games only get 60 or 70k viewers each on FTA in Sydney, that's still a lot more than the 18k or so insomniacs who watch Friday Night NRL in Melbourne - and therefore boosts the...

    SOO animal for Victoria?

Nope. Victoria = "The Big V" SA = "Croweaters" WA = "Sandgropers"

Melbourne Storm after better TV slots

With the Friday night double header, they can't do this, unless they are going to show both games at the same time on 2 different channels. Games cannot be delayed by more than 4 hours. Both Friday games start at 7.30pm. So if they wanted they could show: 11.30pm Game 1 on GO! 11.30pm Game 2...

Melbourne Storm after better TV slots

Seeing as non-compliance with the new legislation will impose penalties on the broadcaster, I think they have no choice. Besides, it makes good commercial sense to show NRL live on a digital channel in Melbourne, even though it is currently commercial suicide for them to show it on the main...

Melbourne Storm after better TV slots

All NRL and AFL games now MUST be shown on no more than a 4 hour delay in every state. This means that in Perth the Friday night double header MUST start no later than 7.30, otherwise the starting time of 2nd game would be in breach of the rules. I think it's safe to say that Friday night...

Sydney and Brisbane get a live AFL game on FTA almost every Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The only exception is when Seven's V8 coverage clashes, but even then they schedule a 2 hour deayed game.
