    Id suggest they were testing the water to see if hosting big sports events drove up and held subscriptions. Probably worth it for world wide sports but less so for niche sports (in the global sense)

    That stand is a carbon copy of hbf park east Stand. That was built in 2012 for around $65-70mill. Prices have certainly gone up!

    Just announced hbf park will host some Asia cup games in March 2026. Doesn’t leave much time to get the stadium upgraded if they were aiming to get it done before an nrl team kicked off in 2027. Maybe year 1 would have to be played at optus which would be a shame and a sht fight with afl.

    It would make sense for them to do so. Though $30mill isnt going to make much difference to the overall size of the bid you'd think they need to make to prise the game away from News ltd. (probably 5-6% difference). Can you imagine how much News ltd would sht on the game and pump up AFL's tyres...

    For rugby league to have any hope it’d take the nrl pumping in $30-50mill plus a year to grassroots and $60mill plus nrl costs adding another 2-3 clubs. Can you see that ever happening? That’s basically the revenue nzru operates on.
