Latest IMG proposals for Super League

So Rugba League. Clear to see why IMG recently came out and told the world they don't make the decisions for RL just provide advice. I wouldnt want to be associated with this constant indecision either. The good news is its a proposal from Batley so unlikely to get much support. A proposal to...

    WA BEARS

Considering BARLA side had about ten times bigger player pool to draw from I think WA did ok. Game management told in the end, which you'd expect better half backs from a deeper pool. It was great to have an England team come over and tour. Very positive for the game here.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

It looks like they have invested it in term investments, and are carrying it on the books as liability.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

NZRU Last year $227mill revenue $8.9mill loss The are carrying a lot of debt (not sure if this is tied as a liability to the investment?) and only have $8.4mill equity. https://www.nzrugby.co.nz/assets/NZR-Performance-Report-2023.pdf NZRL revenue $12.1mill $0.5mill loss Equity $2.9mill NZ...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

yes, for a service with a subscription audience of less than 1mill its on par. Fox group has 4.7mill subscribers in Australia and pays around three times that for NRL.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Rumoured (not confirmed) $80mill per year, up from $70mill per year the previous deal. Runs till end of 2025. Sky NZ mark value is around $400mil so the 5% share is worth around $20mill on top of the tv deal. In their 2023 annual report they have media income at $86mill. Hosting a RUWC is worth...

Arent PI'ers still emigrating to NZ, NSW and Qlnd? Why would the next generation of immigrants and their kids not be playing RL?

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Yep, the only one out of the three thats questionable is PNG but hopefully the Govt largesse keeps flowing to keep them viable and by some miracle they produce enough (and keep them) NRL quality players to be competitive. Perth and Christchurch are the obvious clubs for NRL expansion. there...

2024 TV and Streaming Ratings Discussion

International game has arguably more scope to grow the tv audience than a round or two of NRL. Look at how many people get behind the soccer international teams in Australia or the Wallabies when in a world cup or a Lions tour. If we can build a genuine competitive and interesting international...

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

Sounds like its being considered by the committee, not proposed. The proposal for a draft and an under-21s competition is currently under consideration by the NRL Pathways Steering Committee (PSC). This committee includes key figures such as Queensland Rugby League head Ben Ikin, Penrith's...

Next TV deal discussion 2028 -

the 2018-22 deal was announced at $1.9bill ish or an avg of $380mill a year. You can see by NRL accounts the media revenue (cash and contra) in 2018 was $341.5mill and 2019 $349.1mill. No where near what was announced.

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

Thats why it will never happen. NRL would basically have to take control of all elite Jnr development away from the clubs. Not a chance in hell. Besides what problem is it trying to fix? Does the system not work as it is? Only feasible way I could see it working is if NRl gives clubs extra...

    WA BEARS

And by October they had raised the $30mill start up costs. "The initial costs were something like $16 million," Cumins told AAP. "Then on top of that you've got the $10 million for the temporary facilities, and that was going to be Ken Allen Field in Fremantle. "So there's $26 million before...

    Pacific Championships 2024

Could they have ended the tournament or a more dud game? Kumuls getting smashed in front of an empty stadium with hardly anyone watching on TV. What an anti climax. They need to look at scheduling better. well done Tonga fans, basically made the attendances look good! Still great to see IRL...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Sometimes, other times not. It may be they are basically loaning the money to the club owners (those on the board), not owning the club themselves per se. Some investments are for equity share, some are for debt repayment.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

yes the CofE and 'city centre' scheme seem speculative at best. Still having $55mill - $20mill for start up isnt to be sneezed at. Its roughly what the Western Bears raised for start up as well (minus the license fee). Again though as investors not owners I wonder what the return is to the...

There was no evidence of it up until now. Now there is I'm happy to concede they knew the expectation and call them dumb/naieve/wishful (the your pick) for thinking they didnt need to. Still in a world where you are trying to get a good outcome you'd have had that conversation behind closed...

Is there a certain irony about roosters using the 'local' player angle to oppose a draft?
