    OT: Current Affairs and Politics

Nope, all I said is that if they wanted to, the public service could bring the government to its knees. If they are prepared to, that’s what would happen. That would obviously take a few out of their comfort zone, but it would be what it would be. A code of conduct doesn’t count for anything...

Ok, I’ll have to settle for 37,000 services Australia employees in maga hats. What about a go-slow on family tax benefit A and B? Perhaps the ATO can stop collecting taxes?

It doesn’t matter what it’s role is, what matters is how powerful it is. And if it takes a particular dislike to any government, it can create absolute mayhem.

There’s too much wrong with this thesis to take seriously. I’d say the federal police could probably take out every member of parliament in an afternoon. Maybe the military could simply bomb parliament during sittings? I don’t think Albo and his staff waving a white flag and surrendering his...

It needs it to govern. https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/govern That is the definition I am working with (or similar).

You’re wrong on so many counts there that it’s laughable, especially in relation to my perceptions. You have simply failed to counter my assertion with anything reasonable. Not that I am in the grip of panic about it. If you think the federal government can bundy on without public servants...

You haven’t read my claims properly or you wouldn’t be dying on this straw person or spurious mountain.

Nothing in your response supports the proposition that they could not bring it down if they wanted to. “Secret society” was something you ran up the flagpole Sir.

If the public service aren’t collecting or administering payments to folks on welfare etc, do you hundreds of thousands of people are going to cop it?

Just refuse to follow instructions. If enough of them went out, it would be complete chaos. Or a targeted campaign.

Yes, I think a lot of the working class felt patronised by the elite Democrats. As did the Australian population with the voice campaign ….which I voted for. Your beloved conservative immigrants, they probably all voted trumpy.

@Chipmunk beat you to the punch. I still think the public service is powerful. It could bring the government of Australia to its knees if it really wanted to. Happy to argue that one out. Rivers of blood if they cut the dole and social security, which working in the private sector, Im ok...

Brings a lump to the throat to see Gutho signed in Lieu of the dastardly Bunt. Peoples whose footy judgment i respect, desperately wanted Gutho at WT to shore up the side if anything else. Everyone despises Bunt for repeatedly dogging you. Shameless. Gutho is used to seeing the game from the...

Thanks Chippy, quite a compelling argument with an excellent example. I shall need to reconsider my stance.

The far right in Australia have an incredibly hostile public service to deal with as well as a High Court with guts. Australia’s deep state. The Public Service is its own political force. They are disciples of woke and pretty much run the country anyway.

When the US opens its energy reserves, it might not have to rely on the Middle East as much. Therefore it might be inclined to take less interest in the troubled region.
