I think you'll find a lot of the Norths IP is already owned by the NRL.

Sacreligious to NS supporters but I'd actually prefer if one NSW game a season was at that stadium instead of NSO.

Was just being facetious in making reference to the delayed move to the Central Coast.

For the love of god, please don't put another whole stadium build in the way of the Bears getting set up in a new location.

Honestly this is a ripper. Wouldn't mind it as a money grab, heritage option. Heard somewhere years ago it was intended to be the Bears' SL jersey just with a white collar but grain of salt.

I don't recall the consortium mentioning the Pirates at all before the Bears & Jets each put forward their case to the consortium back in June.

He did go on to say "Perth has no identity to lose this time" which is true if you're not someone who likes earning trivia points for remembering the Reds' cup of coffee.

I thought this for a while, but then you've got every club with a city, one with a whole country (who should revert to Auckland anyway) and one "The". So to have a whole state sounds like a rep side. Not that SOO will ever not be just NSW and QLD.

I do wonder if any Sydney AFL supporters resent that they ended up with a founding club from Victoria and not something new

The Swans/Lions thing has been beaten to death because people can't get their heads around supplementing an expansion side with the revival of a club that's been fighting 25+ years for readmission. At least it's not as confusing as the Oakland > Los Angeles > Back to Oakland > Las Vegas Raiders.

Perth Bears We've seen how unpopular it is to be "The" with the Dolphins, even if it seems to be what the NRL want.

5 of the 6 were ARL clubs who didn't get that sweet News Ltd cash. Newcastle were safe regardless but also had the benefit of the 1997 bandwagon with no team closer than 2 hours away. Out of the bottom 6 at that time, Norths and Manly being that low are proof enough that the criteria had holes...

Bears had the option to go to SL and if every SL club's News Ltd grant counted towards the shoddy rationalisation criteria then you can argue that they should've made the jump. Neil Whittaker advised them that moving to the CC would guarantee them a spot by being counted as a regional club along...

This is why a Sydney team forced on Perth doesn't matter. If 46,000+ turn out for a boring sport like cricket then Rugby League has nothing to worry about.

At the time Cronulla ranked 5th overall so they were very safe. On paper it made more sense consolidating two expansion sides, one that was bleeding money in travel costs and the other that was only born out of SL not being able to secure the Knights, into an expansion area like Melbourne who...
