The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

A ~20k #2 stadium in Brisbane would cover the vast majority of Reds games too these days. Whether they’re willing to give up Suncorp is another question. The loss of Roar games would be more than covered by the increase in maximum concerts at Suncorp. It will probably make it easier to pack the...

Thanks. Whilst I can see the appeal of having a rectangular stadium as part of a sports & entertainment precinct with Optus it doesn’t look like HBF is in a bad spot by any means and has already some money spent on it. Again I am just playing around with Google maps here but with HBF you have 2...

    WA BEARS

Genuine question, what’s the appeal with Burswood besides being beside Optus & the Casino? Granted I’ve never been to either and I’m being a google maps expert here but HBF looks closer to the CBD. It’s close to a couple train stations serviced by multiple lines, bars and restaurants nearby...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

That would be a simple work around of how the is announced. The Olympic Park area is already set for a big transformation so just announce the direction funding is going in parts. That’s as needed for the medium-long term too. Accor is the only large project as it needs a full rebuild. Qudos...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Well not really, don’t see how it costs more than doing all of it one by one. Doesn’t all need to be done at once, staggered over 5-10 years to refresh the precinct while the metro work and urban renewal is happening. Accor rebuild would be the main part of course but the other stadiums &...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

That would work out perfectly if they can get it all done around 2030-2035 to coincide with the metro opening in 2032 (estimated). Taking my NRL cap off they could also do renovations at Sydney Showgrounds stadium where Thunder & Giants play and throw some money towards sprucing up the...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I don’t really see a roof as a major necessity in Australia as long as the majority of the seating is well covered. Wouldn’t hurt to have a roof at Canberra maybe, but getting a new stadium is proving hard enough. If they can get a retractable roof as part of the deal if/when Accor and Suncorp...

I’ve had the same a couple times this morning at random times, both while browsing LU. Chrome browser on iPhone, iOS 18.1.1

Stadium Australia was already lined up for a rebuild recently so it’s not entirely out of sight out of mind, just on pause for now. Putting a roof on it in its current configuration would be a disaster for a rebuild though so hopefully that idea is well and truely dead.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

You’ll probably never get Sydney down to 3-4 stadiums and it wouldn’t really work for Sydney anyway. A bit of a balance between the central and suburban could happen slowly over time but I doubt you’d ever get Manly or Cronulla to Allianz full time even if their grounds are in shit nick. In...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Depends on the context of each situation. Those NFL & EPL teams that you mention would either have a large stadium already so no urgent need for an upsize, or if not most would be looking for upgrades when the demand is there. Brisbane having the 6th biggest stadium in Australia shows they are...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Suncorp sold out 10 times last year for League alone, probably closer to 20 once you factor in concerts and Soccer & Union Internationals. Brisbane is starting to outgrow it which should be pointed out at every opportunity, 3rd biggest city in Australia with only the 6th biggest stadium. It’d...

Even then, they made a bit of noise about Cronulla of all places, other than that I can’t remember them pushing for stadiums much at all recently. Brisbane/Queensland Olympics funding, Auckland, Canberra etc could do with some pressure from the NRL.

I’d add V’Landys and the NRL to that last sentence. Lobbying for stadiums doesn’t seem to be their strongest suit currently.

    18th club, whose next?

Darwin Drongos & Cairns Cow-ards for teams 20 & 21, do it. Grifters will probably get that 20k stadium though, meanwhile Barlow Park gets one grandstand and the athletics track remains.

    The Las Vegas Thread

A few teams toyed with the idea of playing in Hawaii last decade but it never came to be. From what I can gather the main 50k stadium there is condemned and closed, the football team currently plays at a college stadium that only holds about 16k. There are plans in motion to build a 25k...
