Melbourne looks unbelievably good. Got to be 25,000? surely!

    2024 Crowd Watch

Another one that I think is a good result. They’ve been truly diabolical bar last week so they’d have to take that.

Actually, on further inspection it was the 8pm game. A brilliant increase.

    Well that’s a great increase.

    2024 Crowd Watch

It does seem a good crowd. From memory, it was the same time slot for the corresponding game last year? Anyone remember that attendance?

Rugby League is in the greatest shape ever. (Discuss)

Ps, I think we all overlook the worst legacy of the super league war. That is that News limited owned half of the game. it wasn’t until 2012 that the truly independent NRL came into being and for all the hate for previous administrations, they have helped to get us to our natural position. The...

Rugby League is in the greatest shape ever. (Discuss)

Really good thread this one. I’d argue we’ve hit mid 90s levels this year. The talk about the game is nearly all about the footy and not off field problems or administrative issues. I don’t like the cut if PVL’s jib necessarily, but shit he’s ambitious about the game. Gotta give the man his...

Actually desert, do you remember the messages that used to fly about about where to catch any given game? It was like Carmen sandiago. Not that I know who you are, just assuming we were actually in the same places watching the same games at the same time.

Prince if wales on church street (which is a shithouse pokie den but used to play the game In the front bar) and the rising sun on Burnley and swan also had some awesome atmosphere. But you’re right, by far the best atmosphere I experienced was at the limerick arms, upstairs, for the...

    2024 Crowd Watch

I lived in Melbourne for 12 years from 2005 and the growth from outright hostility to begrudging acceptance was very obvious. I now think we can safely say that the storm, yes with all their success and all, have carved out a genuine niche in the market. It takes a while but it is so good for...

Another terrific crowd. Another terrific game. We’re in really rude health.

The big 5 I refer to are Bunnies, Dogs, Dragons, Tigers and Eels. (In no particular order)

    2024 Crowd Watch

Oh I hear ya mate. One of the most remarkable things about last year with the big bump in crowds is that the traditional big 5 supported Sydney clubs (the ones that can mobilise BIG support, like 70k+ to prelim finals)all missed the 8. imagine the attendances if the dogs or wests tigers or...

Average of 12,300 over the 3 games in Sydney this arvo. Not that far off the benchmark I set but with three repeated under performers. Not great I know, but seriously 5 years ago we’d be calling it a massive win. It’s all about the trend my friends.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Woah, if that’s right it’s outstanding! BIG test tomorrow. If all grounds look full, massive win. If we average over 13,000 over the three games, we can safely say that we’re back at winfield cup levels. Big if. The general vibe around talk of the games here in Wagga is at that early 90s sorta...

Massive saturation of games in Sydney this weekend. Be interesting to see if it has any impact on attendances.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Anyone have intimate knowledge of Raiders ticketing? Heaps of sections completely unavailable but those that are available are more or less empty. There’s a group of 8 of us looking to go Saturday arvo, does this mean tickets are selling quickly or should I not stress too much?

    2024 Crowd Watch

Well clearly there is demand for a second Brisbane club. What was their average crowd last year? And plying at the small ground means that they preserve the Redcliffe brand, which is 75 years (ish) old. You can’t buy that type of history.
