    General Discussion Thread

I think they are both legends and make great captains and role models to our younger players. But Nathan’s record though once he finishes will have him right up there with one of the best ever to have played the game, not just one of the best ever Panthers players.

Weren’t you in the totally wrong about Ivan club?

I really can’t. He has a connection with Penrith, plus has his Drink West business and is opening his sports bar in High Street Penrith, so he would be crazy to give all that on and join another team.

By the end of his career, it will easily be Nathan. Yeo second on the list though.

I still think we will finish top 3. With us, Storm and an improved Sharks the top 3.

Rumoured & Confirmed Signings (2025 Season)

This is a cut and paste from the DT article: Trent Toelau is the most recognisable name among the Panthers train-and-triallists after making 12 appearances in the NRL in 2024. He was also named in the New Zealand squad for the Pacific Championships. Prop Austin Dias also has first grade...

We have 29 players signed for next season already. As spot 30 will be kept for a possible mid season signing, there will be no signings to announce before the 2025 kick off.

    PF v Sharks

I still can’t fathom why the Gould let him go! But glad for us that he did. Does anyone know if we have actually re-signed him yet? If not, then his value has just gone up after a performance like that in a prelim final. He doesn’t show as signed for us for 2025 on Foxsports, Zero Tackle etc.

And the first team in the salary cap era to do it. It’s hard to imagine that record ever being broken. Well….except when we make it six grand finals in a row next season!

    2025 Panthers 17.

Papali’i said in an interview after we signed him that Ivan spoke to him about playing second row. Plus Ivan tried to sign Fifita first, so was trying to add a staring edge player to the roster, then signed Papali’i as soon as they didn’t get Fifita. So would be surprised if he plays as a middle.

Well, looks like NAS is out of the grand final. He has been charged with a grade 3 careless high tackle. Four weeks with an early guilty plea. The Storm will no doubt fight it at the judiciary though.

    Round 26 v Souffs

We have won the last 2 premierships with Tago at starting centre. If we make another grand final, we won’t lose it because we have Tago playing centre over an 18 year old rookie.

Agree Soro for Eiso as the only unforced change. And Geyer for Smith if Smith gets suspended.

    Round 26 v Souffs

Ivan was asked in the presser if he will rest players next week now they have a top 4 spot locked in, and he said he wouldn’t because he wants them to play well next week before heading into the finals and they still have things they need to get better at. So I don’t think there will be anyone...

Laurie did a great job filling in at 1 for Edwards, but he shouldn't be our 14. When Nathan returns he will be carrying a bung shoulder, so our 14 needs to be able to cover 7, as well as play minutes at 9. So even though he didn't play well yesterday, I would still keep Toelau at 14 over the...

    Round 26 v Souffs

I agree Alamoti he should be in our best 17. Either on the wing instead of Laurie, so Jessie stays at centre. Or if Jessie is out next week, then at centre with Turuva on the wing.

    Round 25 v Canberra

I would of preferred Cole over Schneider yesterday as well. But having said that, Schneider made 28 tackles yesterday at 85%, 4 missed. If Luai hadn’t thrown that intercept pass we would of ground out another win through our defence, with Schneider playing his part in the game plan. What would...

    Other games 2024

We have the current NSW, and future Australian, fullback, so we didn’t sign him as a 1. We already have Tago, Casey and Alomoti, so we didn’t need to sign another rookie centre. Hence it’s fairly safe to assume he has been signed to fill the 6 once Luai is gone.

    Other games 2024

Trust Cole to be in the 17. Doesn’t mean we trust him to be the starting 6 to replace Luai. Otherwise why would break from our recruitment model and sign a rookie centre when we already have junior rookie centres that can fill that position?

    Other games 2024

The Panthers over the last 4 years have signed under valued older players with potential to add to their juniors coming through to fill any gaps. The fact that they have broken from that pattern to sign a 19 year old rookie Talagi would suggest they don’t see Laurie, Cole or Schneider good...
