Not here to troll or anything, just a genuine question.

How do Roosters supporters compare/rate these two periods?

In both premierships were won, and the team finished high on the ladder.

Some would argue that the fact the team got to 4 grand finals in the first period would make it superior, however others could argue that winning 3 minor premierships in a row would eclipse that, so what's the general consensus?

Pretty even for mine.

00 - 04 massively disapointing though when compared to this mob. Maybe because I'm older or something but I sill struggle with how we butchered those comps in 03 and 04 (especially).

I'd say the 02-04 was slightly better on the back of having Freddy Fittler. But the 2013 side was immense.

yeah I agree. I felt like those 03 and 04 comps were a hell of a lot more disappointing than the semi final exits in the last two years, especially this year with the away major semi with no Pearce and JWH.

Having Finch probably f**ked us in the 03, 04 GFs but I say the 2000-2004 era is superior so far due to the fact those sides found a way to win semi finals unlike the 14,15 teams.

It certainly helped that the 03-04 sides faced teams 7 and 8 respectively in week 1 of the finals. For two thrashings.

It was much easier to make the GF back then as a result.

The 03, 04 sides should have belted the Panthers and the Dogs too. We were up 12 or 13-6 before half time and should have scored another when Mini had one disallowed for obstruction. They were shot before that disallowed try. Never mind the 3 or 4 butchered tries in the second half.

The Panthers game we panicked once Byrne got tackled over the sideline. Why the f**k didnt he step inside and take the tackle it was the first for crying out loud. f**ken Schubert not letting us play Mullos in 2003.

Finch's kicking game in that match was an abomination and it didn't help that Freddy played on one leg I believe in that game.

Having said that Storm and Riff in past two seasons weren't much chop either...we should have torn both of them a new one in week one.

Brett Finch and Chris Walker completely f**ked us in the 03 and 04 GFs. Walker let in 12 points each game and Finch's game was rubbish in both.

I think if both era's went the other way and we won the GF's on the back of two loses those era's would feel more successful. I think our expectations were set too high with the GF win first up in 2002 and 2013 and the subsequent loses seemed more disappointing?

Chook.

Agreed, I wanted Walker hung, drawn and quartered after the Dogs grand final. In 2003 he was likewise shocking with his poor reads.

It's close. Comparing the Premiership teams...

THE BACKS
2002 - Phillips, Mullins, Hegarty, Hodges, Mini, Fittler, Wing...Mullins was past his best and Hodges and Mini were showing potential
2013 - Mini, Tupou, Jennings, SKD, RTS, Maloney, Pearce...No Freddie is the obvious standout and Mini was fading at this stage but I feel there is slightly more talent spread across this backline than the 2002 squad.

THE PIGS
2002 - Cayless, Bonetti, Cusack, Morley, Fitzgibbon, Ricketson...Cayless and Cusack were plodders, Bonetti was a decent rake, Fitzy and Morley were awesome, Ricko was a great clubman but a tad overrated as a player.
2013 - JWH, Friend, Moa, Guerra, SBW, FPN...FPN is average but the rest of the pack outrates the 2002 squad for mine.

THE BENCH
2002 - Flannery, Fletcher, Crocker, Lomu...strong bench
2013 - Mortimer, Aubusson, Cordner, O'Donnell...decent bench too but the '02 bench wins by a whisker.

Overall, I'll lean towards 2013 but not by much at all.

He was a winger. He was being chased by a backrower in the twilight of his career. He thought he would make it easy. Just like his side thought they would win easy. But they didn't.

To be fair, not many people were backing Penrith, not a slight on them but many of us came from the school-of-thought that you had to experience a GF to win one. Nothing more to it than that.

Back on topic, 00-04 side relied to much on Freddy as our win-loss record without him would testify. So I'll go with 13-15 on that alone. They covered injuries across the park pretty well and chuck in a defensive record to boot. Loved both sides, though.
