Huge game for both teams.

If Parra is gonna be motivated for any game it'll be this one which is a worry.

BUT atm I think we are hitting our straps while Parra are still lost in how to play.

We should be able to win this one 30 - 16.

Knights by 18.

Eels are playing pathetic, and i think if they had anything more to offer this season, we would have seen it by now. It's a pity, as I thought they had the talent to finish in the top 4.

Huge game for both sides. Winner is right in the hunt, whilst the loser sees themselves four points outside the top 8 with five rounds remaining. I just think the Knights are playing much better than the Eels at the moment, and should win...but stranger things have happened.

Bailey will be out so Smithy will have to play Dureau in the halves which means we will actually have some spark in attack.

Knights - 28
Eels - 10

Knights should beat the boring eels , i would not be surprise if the knights have a 20-30 point lead at half time

Knights v Eels Preview

EnergyAustralia Stadium
Monday 7.00pm
THERE’S bound to be plenty of fire in this match with both coaches taking on their respective teams.
Newcastle mentor Brian Smith of course led the Eels since 1997, taking them all the way to the 2001 grand final where they were defeated by… yes, Michael Hagan’s Knights.
Hagan now holds the clipboard for Parramatta and there’s no doubt that both masterminds will be looking to get one over their former clubs.
The game marks Brian Smith’s 500th as coach; a remarkable achievement spanning back to when he took on the struggling Illawarra Steelers.
However, milestones will be the last thing on Smith’s mind come Monday night, his side needs to win this game to remain in the finals’ hunt.
From now until the end of the season every match is crucial for Newcastle, one dropped game and the gap between them and eighth place may prove too great.
At the moment they sit just one win out of the eight, but they can’t think about those around them, they must simply concentrate on winning themselves.
Remarkably Parramatta are equal on 20 competition points with the Knights – mathematically they have the same chance of making the finals, but looking at this game from the outside, Newcastle appear the only team with a shot at the total.
The Eels did keep their hopes alive with a win over the Cowboys last week but a similar performance will see them belted by the enterprising Knights.
Parramatta are in a form slump and will need to snap out of it in a hurry to win this game.
Watch out Knights: While they haven’t been firing on all cylinders like they were last season, Parramatta’s lethal centres pose the greatest threat. Krisnan Inu (9 line breaks, 6 tries) has the ability to turn the game on its head, while Jarryd Hayne (average of 113 running metres) on the other side of the field only needs to hit his straps and it could be enough to see the Eels home.
Hayne will fancy himself against his much older opposite, Adam MacDougall, while Inu will back his ability against the inexperienced Junior Sau.
It sounds simple for Parramatta but the process in actually getting these fellows the ball is very complicated.
The Eels’ forwards must be able to get on top of the Knights’ forward pack, a dominance which they have struggled to achieve this season.
Their halves then need to feed early ball to Inu and Hayne to give them the space to work their magic.
Watch out Eels: Danny Buderus announced his return last week against the Rabbitohs with great success, and his revival can only spell bad news for Parramatta.
The NSW Origin skipper is determined in his last season in the NRL to lead the Knights to the finals and he has the experience and wares to get them there.
In conjunction with his prop forwards who have been taking the team forward all season, Buderus will damage Parramatta out of dummy-half and will spark his backline into action (4 try assists).
Buderus is just one man but his presence on the field is such an asset for Newcastle, that it should see them home.
He has time with the ball (an average of 74 running metres) and in defence, his tremendous work ethic inspires team-mates into action.
Where it will be won: In the forwards. Parramatta have struggled in the forwards all season and they can’t win this game unless their front row in particular stands up.
Nathan Cayless (averages 120 running metres) has been below his usual best this year, and he needs the likes of Josh Cordoba, Fuifui Moimoi and Weller Hauraki to join with him in getting physical and taking the challenge to the Newcastle pack.
The Knights have been strong in the forwards this year, however they go into this game somewhat under-strength in the pig department.
NSW State of Origin prop Ben Cross has been missing for weeks now, but on top of his absence, Jesse Royal and Danny Wicks are also out of the team. Matt White and Dan Tolar (average of 73 running metres) start in the front row with young buck Mark Taufua coming off the bench to add impact.
The experience of Moimoi and Cayless might have the edge over White and Tolar; however the strength of Steve Simpson, Chris Houston (6 line breaks) and Cory Paterson (3 try assists, 7 line breaks) in the back row will certainly ensure that the forward battle is strongly contested.
Parramatta not only need to do well in the engine room, they need to completely dominate.
This is the only way they will be able to generate enough possession to trouble Newcastle.
The Knights have too much ability in Jarrod Mullen (12 try assists), Kurt Gidley (11 line breaks for the year) and Danny Buderus to be beaten in this game unless their forwards are completely run off the park.
Head to Head: From 36 clashes between the two teams, the ledger is very close.
The Knights have won 18 games to the Eels’ 17 with one draw. At EnergyAustralia Stadium it’s Newcastle who hold an expected advantage – 11 wins to five from 16 matches.
Conclusion: This game may not excite too many people because of the form Parramatta have shown this season, but the fact that both these teams are locked on equal points with a chance of making the finals makes this a crucial fixture.
All it takes is a win and a couple of other results to go your way and you can be back in the finals race.
Whoever loses this game can virtually say goodbye to 2008 so Monday night should be a mini-finals match.
At home in Newcastle, the Knights should win the game, simple as that.
However, for the entire season the rugby league community has been waiting for the sleeping giant to awake, and perhaps this is the week when Parramatta can come to life.
On paper they can certainly win this match and victory could be season-defining.
The Knights on the other hand have to win this game to be considered worthy finals contenders.
Top-eight teams win matches like this, and if Newcastle fail, then they will probably realise they didn’t deserve to be there anyway.

Im guessing Mateo will be number 18.

All that really means is instead of us winning 28 - 6 it might be 28 -18.

Parra will only play this year when their backs are to the wall. And that is where they are right now.

The only thing for sure from an Eels perspective is that Hindmarsh and Mateo will try their guts out. No idea what the rest of them will do. ( The Keatings will work hard as well, to be fair)
