Gold Coast Titans v Manly Sea Eagles

GREG PRICHARD

June 11, 2010

Friday, Skilled Park, 7.35pm
Referees:
Gavin Badger, Ben Cummins
Head to head:
Sea Eagles 4, Titans 2
Last clash:
Titans 24-22 at Brookvale Oval (rd 7, 2010)
TAB SportsBet:
Titans $1.43, Sea Eagles $2.75
FootyTab:
Sea Eagles +10.5

In an unusual development, the Sea Eagles don't have any players in State of Origin II. But, unfortuntately for them, it's as much to do with injury as anything else. Centre Jamie Lyon and second-rower Anthony Watmough would be playing for NSW if they weren't hurt. They get prop Josh Perry back after he was dropped by the Blues, and hooker Matt Ballin as well, after he made way for the now-fit Cameron Smith in the Queeensland side. Kiwi centre Steve Matai remains suspended, and fullback Brett Stewart and winger David Williams are, of course, gone for the season injured.
So the Sea Eagles backline is a bit of a mish-mash again, as it was in their home loss to the Broncos last weekend. They will have to try to grind it out. The Titans have been struggling themselves recently, losing three games in a row to the Broncos, Roosters and Raiders. Their defence has been getting picked apart. But with centre Mat Rogers returning from injury, and with the Sea Eagles in disarray, they get the chance to return to the winning list at home. The Titans have lost lock Ashley Harrison to Origin.
TITANS: Preston Campbell, Kevin Gordon, Mat Rogers, Sam Tagataese, David Mead, Greg Bird, Scott Prince (capt), Luke Bailey (capt), Nathan Friend, Michael Henderson, Anthony Laffranchi, Mark Minichiello, Bodene Thompson. Interchange: Matthew White, Brad Meyers, Ryan James, Luke O'Dwyer, William Zillman. (One to be omitted).
SEA EAGLES: Ben Farrar, Michael Robertson, Tony Williams, Dean Whare, William Hopoate, Kieran Foran, Trent Hodkinson, Brent Kite, Matt Ballin, Josh Perry, Chris Bailey, Shane Rodney, Glenn Stewart (capt). Interchange: Joe Galuvao, Vic Mauro, Matt Cross, George Rose, Jamie Buhrer (one to be omitted)

Laurie Daley's round 14 preview

Fox Sports commentator Laurie Daley offers his thoughts and predictions for round 14 of the NRL premiership.

Gold Coast Titans v Manly, Skilled Park, Friday, 7.35pm (EST)
This game will be difficult for Manly given the injuries they have at the moment; the losses of Jamie Lyon and Anthony Watmough are a huge blow for them. Gold Coast ran home well last weekend against Canberra and they are not missing too many players this week. The Titans have already dropped two games at home this year so they will be keen to make amends for that. I think the Titans will be too strong at Skilled Park.

I think Manly will get up. It's still a good team despite the young backline and it's really a question of whether the forwards stand up. Manly by 10.

Daley actually making sense. I think Titans will have the cattle in this one. I hope we can perform a mini miracle.

Manlys backline besides hoppa look horribe. Trex is only a winger hes nothing else. Hodkinsons terrible kicking game shows no end. Maybe hes a couple of games wonder bulldogs can waste their money on him.
