The Storm were in cruise control the entire match. They were happy just to come away injury free without getting out of second gear.
Mullen was awful yesterday. Like Soward he gets kick happy when he's frustrated. He had zero patience and instead of building pressure constantly went for the knock out blow. Melbourne will punish you for it every time.
Melbourne will be far better in two weeks time.
Melbourne may not have been at their absolute best yesterday but they were far from good. Costigan's early errors were very costly for Newcastle and Melbourne were good enough to put points on due to them. MacDougall's mouth gave you field position and another try that was gifted to you, albeit due to your players competing for the high ball which they always do well. Champion's try was great play from the Storm. The second half, with a more even share of posession, proved that Melbourne are going to have to improve out of sight if they are to prevent having 20 + put on them in two weeks time. I thought Newcastle handled Smith very well restricting the space he had to play out of dummy half.
