yep I know exactly where you are coming from, even though he is playing for you guys now, he will always be one of my favourite modern Manly Players.......oh well hopefully he will return to the fold one day

I'm glad he is with us.

He was the only player at Manly I liked.

Now there is no one there.

Great win by Melbourne considering the position they put themselves in.
If they lost by 40 I'd be saying "its only round 1" so no use bragging now.

Eagles are such a good side but Melbourne forwards really laid the platform for their backs.
Ben Hampton will be a rep player going on tonights performance.

Great win but lets not get too excited and Manly fans dont get too down on your teams performance...its only round 1.

Go Storm

I get home from a business trip. Turn on the IQ2 and watch this game. I turn it off after 30 minutes where Manly lead 20-0 thinking "Manly are far too good tonight, let's get ready for the Cowboys vs. Raiders game..."

Low and behold: I switch it over at the game goes in to Golden Point. Wow. Manly literally dropped the ball and lost a game they should have won after the start they made. They were playing superb and were cutting Melbourne to shreds. Brett Stewart and his brother Glenn looked superb out there.

Tough loss Manly.

Hampton will replace Widdop no sweat. Got a good packbenche, just a bit less disciplined then in the past

Probably a bit bigger than previous years too. Rose, McClean and K. Bromwich off the bench.

the ill discipline will be stomped out. Count on it.

Hampton struggled in what I saw...how did he go over the last 50 minutes? What was the catalyst for Melbourne - Smith or was it Manly's poor play and Melbourne just capitalised?

Heres my two cents...Manly had all of the possession in the first half and Brett Stewart was their key man and added a second option to their running plays after DCE.

Storm exploited his absence in the second half by running moves out wide to target Hiku and Matai who could not defend it on their lines...a masterstroke from Bellamy IMO.

A big difference in the second half as well was Storm's dominance of the ruck...Kenny Bromwich and Rose ran hard and straight and got quick play the balls and Manly could not defend it and actually could not keep up with the momentum of the game.

It is fine to take a big lead but if you only have 60 mins in the tank you cannot rely on the likes of Lyon, DCE or Stewart to get out of trouble and this could be Manly's downfall this year as the forward pack is light in depth IMO.

Hampton ran good lines in the second half and Jordan McLean looked strong with Rose...

Hiku was at FB, Matai went to the wing and Horo played centre. It screwed up the dynamics on the left side and Horo had terrible defensive reads which the Storm exploited. Toovey should have left Matai in his specialist position and Horo on the wing.

Dont know why coaches use this strategy aka second rowers in the centres and bumping our centre into the wing position. It makes no sense at all.

That must of been a win to savour for Storm fans. At half time I was thinking we would be sitting pretty on top of the ladder when this round was over. Any team with C Smith in it is a gritty team and they showed class to come back.

Might be time to give Gutherson more time in first grade this year. Brett Stewart was a gun when he was 20 and Gutherson sounds like he has the same sort of promise.
