Souths defence is solid, rarely missed tackles and the Dragons found it difficult to make any ground. Scored two tries, soft one just before half time and freakish effort by Widdup in the 2nd half.
They tried a few different things in attack with the Burgess boys running wider, especially George. Sutton needs to give the ball to Inglis a little more on that left hand side, when he did we looked good.
Game showed how important Luke is to this team. Thought for first game back he was very good. Apisai has done a good job and deserves his bench spot for the moment.
'Max' looks passed it tbh, though didn't get the ball much on the wing.
Talk of Dylan playing SOO is a little premature. He'd be marking GI on that side. Still don't think he's quite ready for the step up to origin, but it's not far away.
Sam Burgess continues to be our leader, such a shame he is leaving but it's pleasing to see the improvement in Tom Burgess who outshone his brother last night with his runs.
For the Dragons, they just lacked go forward. Thought Creagh and Thompson tried hard but he didn't have many mates. They need some big men to go forward.
Since Benjii has come in, Widdup has taken a bit of a backward step. They need to find that balance between the two of them in attack. Benjii bashing is ripe but at least he is trying to do something. Dugan playing centre just baffles me. Every time he got the ball he came back inside. Quinlan didn't do anything at the back. Dugan's best spot is fullback.
Think Souths are still a WIP. They have Luke back now and Keary will be back at the back end of the season. Depending how he comes back, he could be an x-factor in the finals time with his attacking flair. Souths kicking game still needs a heap of work. Not sure the midfield bomb is the go. A couple of times they could have run the ball on the last which would have been more effective. Kicking closer to the line was a little better.
