The refereeing was atrocious on balance. The consistency was terrible, the only moment where the same rule was policed the same way bought an ironic cheer from the whole crowd. It genuinely seemed like teams were getting randomly penalised for doing the same thing their opposition got away with (be it holding down, laying in the ruck etc) and it went both ways. All of that is to say - this head/assistant referee idea simply is NOT working.
As to the game itself, an utterly dire first half gave way to an exciting, tense, creative and enterprising second. Both teams should be proud of today's game, but the tenacity of the Dogs to pull a win out of a losing position AGAIN... just incredible. Hopefully we can be a bit stronger against Newcastle.
