60 is the new 40 so don't go there.
I was born in 1954 so 65 this year. I consider myself lucky to follow Saints during those golden years of 11 consecutive grand final wins and during Harry Baths and Wayne Bennett's years as head coach.

This is why I feel so down during the recent Price/Mary period. In addition the Doust era left a lot on the table compared to the Frank Facer era.

With the WIN buy out of the Illawarra shares, I was hoping for a new beginning with a different attitude towards success. But no, we need to do more; we need to clean out the St George side of the Board and give members the chance to vote for Board positions each year. I'm sure if this happened, we would have a more accountable Board and people who look for the best interest of SGI when providing their vote at Board level.

It's ultimately better for us to be down the bottom than hovering middle of the table. We've got too much talent to be cellar dwellers. I want to win every game yeah but I enjoy the fact that Mary has nowhere to hide. Am I the only one that is oddly satisfied right now?

Mary and our CEO are both already hiding behind the De Belin factor. I am sure the Board will do the same.

I was born 1957 so can fully understand and share your sentiments.
I would be OK if the voting was held every 3 years rather than annually as long as there was accountability.
All this back room intrigue is a bit too much for me to reconcile and you could have knocked me over with a feather when Johnstone (new CEO) came out in the media and said that they were very happy with the job McGregor was doing and that an extension was imminent.
I couldn't believe what I was reading actually.
Unless they start respecting the fan base and stop treating us like dodos, I for one will continue to call them out at every opportunity.

So Possm and Dennis, at 55 years of age I am a relative young-un! I have come to the conclusion that there must be more than meets the eye in terms of what is actually going on. There is just something I don't get. Sure it is OK to give a developing coach a decent chance; but this goon has had 5 years and he has never exuded competence.

I go back to the appointment of Bennett when he immediately got rid of the goon. He did not see anything in him then so why are we waiting for him to improve? I get the appointment in 2014; we were on the skids of ass financially and we could not afford a top line coach, but with the WIN buy-out and the appointment of a new (and football savvy) CEO I was very hopeful of a professional revival. To date? Nought.

Can I just throw this out Possm and Dennis; is the CEO good mates with the McGregor and willing him to succeed? Outside of that theory I am bewildered.

How about Albert is so powerful that he is managing to keep coach in place until his little boy Deano is able / ready to take over the ranks of coach?
Albert failed as a coach, failed as a procurement / development officer and is somehow on the BOD so that IMO exhibits a lot of power.
Other than that Millward has the inside running and takes the role when Gordon says so.

Hi RD
McGregor was supported by the Illawarra faction which has turned out to be an abomination especially when it comes to appointing a Head Coach for this great club..
There was no genuine assessment of experience and ability, they just handed him the job.
They had other, better alternatives but chose to ignore them.
JD was the obvious choice and would not have cost much as a rookie FG coach.
When you talk about Bennett and his time at St. George, you are talking about coaching royalty.
He took the reins and got results immediately.
McGregor didn't have the footy IQ to be part of Bennett's set up.
Bennett didn't muck around, he turfed him.
And the fact that Bennet offered JD a job at Brisbane and subsequently at Souths kinda emphasizes what Bennett thinks of Mary as a coach.
I don't want to speak too soon but it looks like the Win buy in will only perpetuate the nepotism that epitomizes McGregor's existence.
Head Coach is not only about coaching FG. It's about setting standards and building a culture in the club that young players can look up to and aspire too.
That's not happening

Nice how tigers have 3 home games against mediocre opponents.
Knights play 4/5 games to start at home.
We play away in n qld a 5 day turnaround v souths then 2 away games in bris and Newcastle.
Just making a point of lopsidedness of the draw.

I read somewhere we have lost our last 4 home games so what does it matter?

You sound like Mary..all teams in certain sections of the year have shit parts to the draw. Have a look at how we play Melb again without their origin players and our soft run in the middle and end of the year with little travel

Happens to us most years, short or ridiculously long turnarounds, more than our fair share of Thurs and Monday night games and poorly timed interstate or NZ games, not to mention a poor share of free to air games. Last year was actually our best draw in a long, long time but back to sh*t this year.

Not as much as us .
Do broncs get a 5 day turnaround
Rarely .if any.
I don't think many teams travel in quick succession like us.

Yes except Broncos always get a favourable draw. But go through the lot. Even the journos rated our draw for the season mid range out of all the teams favourable

Good post!

The main reason I would like an annual vote for St George delegate on the Board is to keep the fans engaged and these Board members accountable. Continuity of Governance is very easily provide through WIN Corp Board Members given that WIN Corp always occupies the chair position on the Board.

It seems to me that the new CEO has joined the old boys club so a change in Board members would be the only way of addressing the perceived nepotism and corruption currently within SGI. After the clean out, we need a leader to instil the value of Excellence rather than mediocracy.
