Great crowd tonite guys, well done! I hope you can stay above 10,000 for the rest of the season, that'd be awesome!

Who'd have thought a week ago, nay three days ago, that Melbourne would have the biggest NRL of the round?

I rate the 15,479 at Olympic Park higher than nearly 55k at Telstra Dome.

Origin was always going to get a crowd; the weather was atrocious for most of Friday in Melbourne and the average punter is not going to stand on muddy terraces when they could be at a ground with a roof and a seat. Importantly no-one left at all, even when it was at its coldest and wettest. It took me back to 98-99-00 at the Graveyard.

Brisbane on Friday night is always going to draw big. Even the most myopic AFL lover knows that they are a quality side. We need more free to air games at a reasonable time so people can see the other teams in the comp and work out the good teams from the so-so. That is when the crowds will grow on a consistant basis. That and a decent stadium.

I hope Ray and Fitzy choked on their cornflakes when they looked at the attendace figures around the grounds for the round.

Ray would have come out with some lame arse call about Storm officials counting the seagulls on the field in the crowd attendance figures or some sh*t like that.

The Warriors game is always big. I think we'll have about 12-14K for that one.

The Tigers game got a good turn out last year and Manly might get a good crowd so everyone can boo Orford! :D

The Warriors game is the only time I think Storm supporters are in the minority at O.P. Never seen less than 11k at those games.

I, personally, cannot wait for the Manly game. I'll applaud "Mr Twinkle Toes" Bell but I'm saving some mighty fine vitriol for the Ox. Or is that Noddy MkII? He's given me another reason to despise Manly.

Someone at the game rang me and told me 60-40, which would account for the additional 5k odd.

Be interesting to see if he was right - If the crowds go back to around 9-10k.

I remember at last year's Sharks game, it was the first time Noddy didn't get booed everytime he touched the ball which disappointed me. I might turn up to the Manly game just to witness the persecution of Orford

orford....well....thats a different story.

All i can say is bring on round 26. I'm sure one or two of the players will also be more than happy to let him know what they thought of him leaving no matter how much they put a positive spin on it in public ;-)

yeah,....i cant wait for round 26 either. they beat us earlier in the year.....we just were down for that game...so hopefully we turn up and show them how we really play.

altho it wouldnt surprise me if we had the mino prem wrapped up if bellamy rested key players for the finals....so we may be down on personel.

60-40 would be a massive overstatement... didnt spot too many broncos fans and if they were there they were mighty quiet. Went out myself with 9 others 7 vics, 2 NSW and a lone QLD'er.

Must say OP is a dump and if was friggin freezing! Had a great night though!

Big Storm crowd on foul night impresses NRL
Karl deKroo

WHILE its tense win against Brisbane at Olympic Park on Friday night helped Melbourne Storm maintain its four-point break at the head of the league ladder, it was a win of another kind that had NRL powerbrokers talking yesterday.

According to official NRL crowd figures, Storm's attendance of 15,479 was the highest of the weekend.
It is believed to be the first time since Storm's inaugural home match against North Sydney in Round 4, 1998, that it has drawn the largest crowd.

"It was a very pleasing result," NRL chief executive David Gallop said last night.

"To think the Storm could draw over 15,000 on a cold and wet night like that in Melbourne was very positive.

"It shows progress is being made, but I think it also highlighted the need for a new stadium. With all the work being done in terms of bringing big games like Origin down there, the increase in funding for promotion and development, the stadium is the one component lacking."

Storm's new multi-million dollar stadium at Olympic Park won't be completed until the end of 2008. Storm chief executive Brian Waldron said, even in the current facilities, he hoped to grow home attendances to an average of more than 10,000.

Waldron said while he was pleased with the crowd figure on Friday night, it was important to put the overall numbers for the round in context.

"The Cowboys and Broncos didn't play on the weekend and they average well above that figure. But the pleasing thing for us is that in the space of three days over 70,000 people attended a rugby league match in Melbourne, be that State of Origin or the Storm. That is outstanding."

Storm coach Craig Bellamy is expected to today name wounded duo Scott Hill (ribs) and Antonio Kaufusi (knee) in the team to play the Knights in Newcastle on Sunday. Both will need to complete a contact session tomorrow to be cleared to play.

Storm physio Mary Toomey said it was unlikely star rookie Greg Inglis would return from stress fractures in his back.

"He should start some more football-related work towards the back end of the week," Toomey said. "I would seriously doubt he is any chance to play this week."

Newcastle expects Milton Thaiday and David Seage to return from injury, but young five-eighth Jarrod Mullen is in doubt with a hamstring strain.

60-40 absolutely laughable

More like 80-20. There were more non-jersey patrons at the ground than I ever saw before.
