150th Anniversary Test: 11th-15th March, 2027

A standalone celebratory match in Melbourne to commemorate Test cricket's 150th anniversary in 2027 is a feature of an extended men's hosting rights schedule released today by Cricket Australia.

While details are yet to be finalised for the Australia-England fixture that honours the inaugural Test played at the MCG from March 15-19 in 1877, it is expected to rival the memorable Centenary Test staged 100 years later at the same venue.

So poms coming out for a one off test? Surely it cant be another nation?

We have the ashes that year in the UK - 2027

Similar to what they did in 1977 with the Centennial test. That year every living Ashes player attended the game. Be good if they can do that again.

This was the game where David Hookes smashed Tony Greig for 5 consecutive 4s in the over and Rick Mckosker batted with a broken jaw.

In 1980 they played another test to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first ashes test in England. Of course it was washed out.

brilliant and memorable game, remember it mainly for Derek Randalls incredible 175 and Lille's ability to just bowl his arse off and never give up

Rod Marsh hundred too.

Australia won by 45 runs the exact same margin/result as the first ever test.

I reckon the Cricket LU should meet up in Melbourne for this one off test.

I am already thinking of doing this one will be cheaper then Boxing Day especially accdomation.

Never been to the MCG yet.

Great idea

Never seen any match there but did the MCG and Museum tour last year , was pretty good. Not a bad seat in the house really

I tell you what would be very good value for money with flights / accomodation and game day tickets . The women’s ashes test late Jan next year at the MCG. I’m contemplating this one.

Massive 2027

The match forms part of an incredibly busy calendar year for Australia men in 2027. They will play four Tests against New Zealand at home in December and January of 2026-27 before flying to India for a five-Test tour in January and February. They will return to play the one-off Test against England which will clash with the start of the IPL, that is due to begin March 14, 2027.

The one-off Test will not be part of the World Test Championship but should Australia qualify for the 2027 final, as they have done for the 2023 and 2025 editions, they will then play a June WTC final before a five-match away Ashes - just as they did in 2023. The 2027 ODI World Cup is scheduled for October and November.

Anyone else put in their ballots?

I did for days 2 and 3 a few weeks back (3 tix per day). Cost $5 per ticket just to enter and hope you are successful

Think Ballots are still going till 5th Feb

Just tried to get 3 tix for day 4, but only single seats available

Test is on Thur 11th - Monday 15th March 2027

A bit over a year away

I'm in the ballot.

Timing for me a bit odd in march. Between the summer and easter holidays.

I think I'll try for day 2. Being a day night test I doubt it goes much longer. Day 2 is calamity day.

Ballots officially closed now

Just got to check my credit card as it looks like successful candidates will be charged their tickets within the next couple of weeks or so..

Day 2 - Could be looking at almost $900 (max) for 3 tix ($290ea for top shelf tix)
Day 3 - Could be looking for at a max of about $500 (tix $90-$160ea i think its cat c-f)

Good luck to those who applied

Im officially going to the 150th anniversary test, so happy 😍

Ive been charged $720 from Ticketek.

Im assuming its day 2 tix at $240ea, As wanted Cat A or B for this day

Thinking here is so may more would have gone for the cheaper tix, so my odds were better

As a historic event, and someone who has never seen test cricket at the MCG, Im more than happy to pay $240..

Anyone else have any luck?

Fangs? Am I possibly seeing you down there for a beverage ?

Nah I don't think I can make those dates work sadly.

Should be a real spectacle though. Hopefully longer than 2 days.
