I have been wanting to get one of those legends jerseys for a couple of years now but believe they were only on sale for a short time in 2002 (around that Roosters match). Can anyone tell me if this is not the case and where I could purchase one if possible

It was on 12 April 1947 that the Parramatta Club played their very first match - against Newtown at Parramatta Oval, later to be renamed Cumberland Oval and then Parramatta Stadium. The Eels lost to the Jets that afternoon 34 - 12.

Not true.

We lost to the Bluebags.

Would have only become the Jets in the late 70s, right?

Wrong on another count. We didn't become the Eels for some time after that. From RL1908.com...

In the 1970s the club took on the Eels name after it was suggested by Sydney sports reporter Peter Frilingos. He had pointed out that the aboriginal meaning of the word ‘parramatta' was ‘the place where the eels lie down' with an obvious reference to the Parramatta River.

Good point. For the first time in a long time I wasn't being pedantic enough!

Try Peter Wynns but I think you might be unlucky.....

Peter Wynn's is where I last saw the 2002 retro strip.

Yeah I tried Peter Wynn's a while back but they were not sure if they were ever going to have it again. Actually I am not sure if they even knew what I was talking about.

When did you last see it in there? I can always give them a call as I don't live locally.

By the way thanks for for the assistance guys:)

Keep an eye on eBay under Sports Memorabilia>Rugby league>Parramatta Eels - there are some absolute gems to be found if you're into collecting vintage Eels gear. I too missed out on the Eels legends jersey and found one on there.

In terms of this 1947 jersey - some people have expressed surprise at the design - several teams had very similar style strips at that time. Western Suburbs had a black jersey with single white stripe, for example. Most of the English RL teams (Widnes, Warrington, Leeds, etc.) had the same strip - a couple of years ago Leeds had this exact jersey as their home jersey. This design is actually very traditional for our code - about as traditional as the chevron design.

Can't wait to get mine...

about a year ago...they had it displayed.

unless you speak to the big fella himself I'm not convinced anyone would know what you're talking about it, I really don't find the sales assistants at that shop very helpful tbh.

maybe it's the people they are talking to Eela

When they see someone like yourself walk in they are too busy containing their laughter to be too helpfull.

In 100 years time - when the club decide to wear retro jerseys to mark the occasion, which one are they going to choose?

They could wear one every week and still not get through them all !
