A far cry from the days when finals were always at the MCG and SCG, with the SCG selling out and the MCG getting 50000+. There'd be lucky to be more than 10-15,000 at the Gabba tonight.
A very big shame with the crowd attendances this tri-series. I know it doesn't help when the tournament has been pushed one month back into the non-holiday/non-summer/back-to-school period, but the quality of the games in this tri-series has been one of the best for many years. Much better than the 2001 series involving West Indies and Zimbabwe. As I said, the ODI series needs to start immediately after the SCG test. Also, don't have the T20 internationals before the ODI series; have them after it.
That's pretty much the game for Sri Lanka. They'll have to pull off a flukey innings like the one they did at the MCG in November 2010 when they were 8-down to get them home from here. Otherwise, they'll pretty much have to concede a 1-0 lead and hopefully pull off two Hobart-like batting performances on a flat Adelaide wicket to win the finals.
It was Xavier Doherty's debut IIRC. Sri Lanka was gone at 8/107, before Matthews and Malinga started swinging the bat and somehow won. SL really feasted on Johnson's bowling
Kulasekara has been wonderful this series with the ball, and now he is being a little magical with the bat. He is kind of good looking as well. I'm a fan
Personally, I think SL has left their run a little too late. However, as was seen in that November 2010 match, they have shown what they are capable of doing. And would you have guessed it....Matthews still at the crease
