interesting squads... are they resting Vettori??

when was the last time we had a genuine leg spinner as a bowling option at international level?? Brooke Walker??

Roneel Hira getting the nod in the T20's is interesting... i saw him about 3 years ago... i didnt rate him at all... i thought he was utter rubbish... he's really come on this season... doesn't turn the ball much... in the mold of vettori where he uses variation of pace more than anything else... but he's worthy of his chance IMO...

dont know much about Latham TBH... Bates & Ellis are okay, they have been superb domestically over the last 2 to 3 seasons so i can understand the reasoning behind picking them... but i would liked to have seen someone who's maybe a bit more raw... but has a few more km's of pace... maybe give that young Milne kid another run... is Hamish Bennett injured??

i just look at Bates, Ellis, Southee & Bracewell and they all look at a similar pace... they will probably destroy the Zimbots... but id like to see someone who's a bit sharper...

Vettori has retired from all limited overs cricket.

The strongest team from that squad:

McCullum
Guptill
Nicol
Williamson
Brownlie
Oram
Latham
N. McCullum
Bracewell
Mills
Southee

Should be a thrilling contest....

Mate I know you're excited after demolishing the heartless minnows who don't give a shit when they play outside of India 4-0, but at least add something of significance if you're gonna post here.

I know they're trying to blood a few guys (Latham, Nethula) and that's fine, but Bates? Domestic plodder who didn't even have that good of an HRV cup. What has McKay done wrong?

Bates deserves a chance, He's been good for a few years now. McKay is ok but can go for plenty.

I'd drop Nicol and open with McCullum and Guptill. Ryder at 3. He needs the practice.

I'm not sure how Ryder has blown his chances in the shorter forms of the game. As frustrating (and injury prone) as he can be some times, he has gone alright in those. His performance was terrible in the Tests in 2011, but he still averaged around 45 in ODI's, including a superb century v Pakistan and a crucial 83 in our quarter final win against South Africa.

Yeah I found it weird when people where calling for his head after the Aussie series despite still boasting one of the best averages among our batsmen in both forms of the game. He did have a bit of a rough patch but certainly nothing worse than the stuff guys like McCullum had been dishing up.

It's just a matter of keeping him on the field.

He needs to prove his fitness for me. I think he should play for Wellington for the length of the Zim tour, and see how he goes. Nicol deserves to be in front of him easily. Also offers a bowling option.

I'm excited about Latham, should be our next young star keeper. Good Cantab also ;)

Nicol's an ok bowler but things would have to be getting pretty desperate to bowl him at international level. Although in saying that he's a better bowler than Guptill and we bowl him so.....

It's a shame Ryder can't bowl any more because he was a bloody useful option when he could. Speaking of Ryder, he just cracked 96 off 67 balls for Wellington. Wouldn't surprise me if he got caught trying to bring up his ton with a 6 .
