Aussies can regain the no.1 if all there big guns fire but TBH the Saffas have more strike power in there side when we have no SYMO, Lee or Watson.

My team for first ODI

Clarke
Haddin
Ponting
North
Dussey
Ferguson
White
Hopes
Johnson
Bracken
Laughlin

Clarkey, Hussey and Punter need to step up, their recent form has been ordinary.

How is Clarke in Ordinary form? 4 bad innings in his last 15 and all of a sudden he needs to step up? Incase you haven't been watching cricket, Clarke has been pretty much the only one to step up.

Since Melbourne Ponting is at 4 50's and 1 100 out of 10. Seems like he doesn't need to lift anything but the trophy up

The senior members (Huss, Clarke and Ponting) will most likely start the series but wouldnt be suprised if all of them missed atleast 1 game

Yep, agree Twiz. Ponting and Clarke maybe even more so. They have had a few runs of outs, but they have also both thrown some opportunitues away when they were playing well.

Poor Huss has just been right off the boil.

They are the three who can take some pressue off the rest of the less experienced blokes.

ODI wise Ponting is the main one that needs to stand up, he continues to throw his wicket away after a start. Hussey and Clarke have gone on of late in the ODI arena. Team wise I would go

Haddin
Clarke
Ponting
Dussey
Ferguson
Hussey
Johnson*
Hopes
Hauritz/Geeves
Bracken
Laughin

*Johnson in a floating role, can move as high as 5 to smash Botha and get in.

Ponting said it himself that he needs to start converting his starts because 50s won't win you matches.

when the AB medal was on, they showed punters test average to be low 40's for the year

this is after we have played WI, NZ test series, and in india where pitches favoured bastman

I think with the fact so many new caps are coming into the side, his mentoring and responsibilities have skyrockted, plus we are spending more time in the field due to the inexperienced attack we have,

He generally scores well early in the series, then drifts away, possibly with the above mentioned pressure?. It has affected his batting id say. He can be doing far better for someone of his standing imo.

Low 40's isn't bad, but for someone of Pontings class it is below average. And a lot of his dissmisals of late have been on the dumb side.

Exactly, Ponting's standard. Ponting set the bar so high people are being mad at low 40's.

There was a time, not too long ago, where people were looked upon as being the best in the business with a career average of the low 40's.

true, but then they started to use the ropes decreased the boundary sizes

by his standards he's not really in form we're used to him performing better than he is atm
