The fact that he got an ashes gig is mind boggling, the guy is shit and was brought in to "liven up the dressing room" :sarcasm:

His bowling is rubbish , his batting on the other hand is pretty good.

His first class average is superior to two of the current test batting line up.

IMO he will play test cricket again and do well at it.

Also like the last few years the women are playing curtain raisers
Southern Stars v NZ White Ferns. Not sure if they're on the main channel. Last year they got siphoned off to GEM

To be honest I forgot about Steve O'Keefe and I would have him ahead of Michael Beer.

Steven Smith should be no where near an Australian side. The fact that he was in the top teir of Australian Contracts last year was outrageous.

Wouldn't hold his place as a batsmen and bowls absolute rubish. If your picking players on feilding ability alone, your scrapping the bottom of the barell IMO

You are spot on, Steve Smith is nowhere near close to being international quality.

There should be a requirement for all International T20 matches to be played wearing ODI uniforms from the past of whichever team is playing. Then they could sell them as merch to the fans.

Perth Scorchers spinner Brad Hogg hopeful of Australia call up, captain Cameron White unsure of his chances..

By Justin Chadwick AAP January 22, 2012 12:19PM

After leading Perth Scorchers into the KFC T20 Big Bash League final, in-form spinner Brad Hogg hopes he has done enough to convince Australia selectors he deserves a recall to the national set-up.

Australia will unveil their Twenty20 squad for February's two-game series against India on Monday, with several question marks still hovering over the make-up of the team.

Skipper Cameron White is in serious danger of being axed after his mediocre form in the KFC T20 Big Bash League, while 40-year-old Hogg could earn a fairytale recall almost four years after playing his last game for Australia.

Hogg snared 2-17 off four overs to help inspire the Scorchers to an 11-run victory over Melbourne Stars in Saturday night's semi-final at the WACA Ground.

The win not only set up a home final for the Scorchers next Saturday, it also secured Perth's passage into the lucrative Champions League.

Hogg has been the star of the show in the Big Bash League, snaring 12 wickets at an average of 13.5.

In a bid to boost his chances of appearing for Australia at this year's Twenty20 World Cup, Hogg will play in the newly-formed Bangladesh Premier League and also the IPL if, as expected, he gets snapped up in the auction.

When asked about his chances of earning a call-up for the Twenty20 series against India, Hogg seemed quietly confident.

"I think my smile says it all," Hogg said.

"Since there's been talk of me playing for Australia and the World Cup coming up, I took those opportunities (of IPL and Bangladesh) to put my name down, just to make sure I'm playing as much cricket as possible.

"There's no point selecting me if I'm not playing any Twenty20 cricket.

"But if I'm playing cricket against good competition at the highest level over the next six months, then at least I'm trying to stay in as much form as possible."

White didn't seem as hopeful when asked about his own chances of being retained in the Twenty20 squad.

"I think you'll find out Monday," the Stars captain said.

White admitted the Stars' semi-final exit was disappointing, but denied suggestions the players were more gutted at missing qualification for the million-dollar Champions League.

"I don't think that even enters your mind," White said.

"You know there's Champions League at the end if you win but the money is just part of it, you don't really worry about it too much."

Chasing 175 for victory, the Stars were restricted to 8-163.

West Australian cricket's last piece of silverware came back in 2003/04 when the Warriors won the one-day competition.

But Hogg hopes the eight-year title drought will soon end courtesy of the Scorchers.

"People were writing us off, saying we were going to finish last. Now we're in a grand final," Hogg said.

I'd pick Hoggy as he has a mystery ball of sorts..

Not one batsman has been able to pick his wrong'un..

Surely White is goneski..

No that I think about it, White is probably one of the selectors, so that should save his bacon for the time being.

Needs a few net sessions with Mick Lewis...

Would have him for the WC, no need to play him in the ones against India.

Wouldn't you want him in the set up as soon as possible??..

Or are you thinking keep the wrong'un under wraps??

He's been bowling it for 20 years & they still can't pick it,so i don't see it as being a problem..

I still see T20 as a format you can just put the player straight in and go from there. We did it with Hussey at the last one, he had barely played a T20I then came in at the WC and performed instantly. We all know what Hogg can do, whereas SOK or whoever we choose could use that experience.

Was never a huge fan of Hogg when he was an Australian regular, but if he was selected for the match next week, I would find it very hard to argue with the decision.

Wouldn't mind seeing the likes of Mitch Marsh and Coulter-Nile get a run.
