He is a dasher in the same category as Mike Whitney though

A dasher who can pull his head in and play to the situation. B McCullum could learn something about test batting from Boult, McCullum would have to be the most immature batsman iv'e ever seen...in the short forms of the game he's fine because theres no real accountability, but in test cricket he bats with the maturity of a 10 year old.

Haque scoring over a run a ball for his 77no 13 boundaries, is it poor bowling or selective despatching the bad balls?

Hope he goes on with it tomorrow for a huge ton

Another young Bangladeshi showing off his bucket loads of natural talent early on. Unfortunately barring 2-3 players almost every one who did this faded away completely after a couple of years.

Its a real shame because these kids come out at 19-21 years of age and have the potential to have 10-15 years at the top level.

why are they fading away? that's what id be looking at

Is there too much pressure after performing early on? Are they brought in too young? Politics?

Probably both. Our quicks had them well and truly under the pump, the ball was still swinging and for some reason McCullum brings on Bruce Martin after only about 8 overs. He sends down pie and pie and all the pressures off. Good batting by the Bangers as well though.

He was despatching the bad balls. Playing traditional cricketing strokes and was looking a million bucks.

He is closing in on 150 runs. He is carrying Bangladesh atm.

Bangers in a good position at lunch on Day 3. Mominul needs to carry on and Shakib really needs to pitch in with the bat. Bangers still have there best two batsmen to come in - Mushfiqur and Nasir Hossain, so BD are in a good position considering the trouble they were in early in the innings.

Very true and this is seen by how well the BD U19 kids perform.

There are many reason for this - poor domestic structure and lack of quality coaching. The kids can't develop if they don't have the coaching around them.

There was always a lot politics in Bangladesh cricket. I have a friend who played domestic cricket in Bangladesh. He experienced first hand that umpires were bribed by clubs. BCB is just money hungry and dont look to invest into improving facilities around the country. They don't focus on grass roots at all.

If this doesn't change then Bangladesh will have to rely on talent for a long long time.

Mominul Haque has looked fantastic in this knock. There's similarities to Kumar Sangakkara in the way he plays.

McCullum can be a duddles of a captain sometimes. He gets a double break through, and rather than bring on his strike bowlers, he brings on Ish Sodhi and Bruce Martin to continue their procession of half tracker pies and slow straight breaking half volleys to belt to all and sundry. McCullum is being very generous letting the Banga's lower order play themselves in against blokes who frankly make Dipak Patel look like the second coming of Hedley Verity.

The issue with Bangladesh and their talented batsmen is twofold and interrelated. Firstly their first class competition is probably equivalent to Sydney 3rd grade at best, they play so little cricket at the top level that they can't improve on their technique and every time they play test matches they have to adjust to the big gap between test quality bowlers and pie throwers. That's why Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Ireland should play against A sides a lot more often.

Secondly once a new boy arrives on the scene he has a small period of grace when bowlers and captains have no idea of his strengths and weaknesses and so they can play inhibited. Once teams start analysing their games technique alone isn't enough to see them score consistent runs.

As for this test the bangers are doing well but they are notorious for failing badly with the bat in their second innings and handing sides victories. Here's hoping they've changed.

Points victory to Bangladesh so far this test, has a small first innings lead of 32.

at 8/387, Kiwis did what bangers did, lets the tail score excessively

NZ 1/71 - should be a draw, unless a batting collapse next couple of sessions

I'd give points victory to the pitch. It sounds like an absolute farce of a pitch. Put your front foot down the line and drive through the ball on a good length with immunity, sit back when its short and bash it off belly button height if its short. No wonder the Bangas are where they are in their development if they produce disgraceful non result pitches like this one.

Sohag Gazi takes a hat-trick (Bangers first) to go with his maiden century. Not a bad test match for him.

It was painful watching Tamim and Marshall bat together. Tamim should have lived upto his reputation and played aggressively early on to force pressure. He was also a cat with 9 lives.

BD never had this close of a chance to win a test match so they should have unleashed. The team should have mixed it up and opened with Tamim and Shakib or Nasir to show that they were hungry for victory.

Shakib came in at #5 and started to play T20 cricket. Bangladesh weren't that far away from the target. 87 runs with 7 wickets in hand.

At least we got the draw. Now to focus on the next match.

Sohag Gazi became the only Test cricketer to score a century and take a hat-trick in the same match, during the drawn first Test against New Zealand © AFP

^ Gazi had scored a century and taken a hattrick in the same match before in Bangladesh's first class comp.

So he has achieved this unbelievable feat TWICE in his career.
