I really don't understand how the 3rd umpire justified his decision by saying he found no evidence that he did NOT hit the ball.

Um, isn't lack of hot spot AND no snicko spikes enough evidence.

That justification just boggles my mind.

I am confused.

Last time we were in Australia a clear hot spot wasn't enough for a wicket. This tour you don't even need hint of a spot. Both decisions in favour of Australia of course.

Yeah, well, it obviously hit the helmet. It may have hit the glove, but Dar wouldn't know, nor Smith or Starc...maybe not even CDG (if it did collect his glove on the way through). Only Erasmus could possibly rule conclusively and he made a mess of that

Anyway...no good whinging. Dar and Erasmus fkd up. Moral victory NZ.

Smith just made an excellent point there- if Aleem Dar had have given him not out there, Erasmus would have supported the decision. This is the same problem I have with NRL refs. They guess and then third umpires have to conclusively disprove their guesses and that is seemingly impossible.

Lab didn't even touch that but there's no evidence to disprove that, so Santner is lucky
