There was a convo before the summer where a couple of us thought he might have a quiet summer due to ashes burnout

To be fair, he's been out of form to watch but he still somehow managed 43 in the first innings which is obviously a respectable score. He'll come good soon.

I know its only 3 tests in a row of poor returns with the bat but Steve Smith is in terrible form.
He always looks goofy batting but currently he looks goofy and unsure. He has gotten out 4 times this summer so far to subpar, almost park cricket type shot selections. Either he has been working on some part of his game that has thrown him off a bit, or the ridiculous pressure put on him by fkn idiots calling him the new Bradman has gotten to him. Either way he is struggling.
I think he needs to be dropped for Ashton Turner.

That 43 was painful to watch. He never once looked 'in' and when he eventually fell it seemed inevitable. I havent felt like that watching him in tests for years. ODIs yes but not tests. A few months ago it seemed he was destined to dominate this summer and appologise to the nation on a tour round the country. It must be a hollow feeling for him at present watching others succeed so readily when he cant.

Does seem like a good bloke, to be fair. Just not a test standard batsman. Or captain.
isn't it just trendy to bag captains though? He's turned that team around to be fair - they're winning, and not being merkins... not too bad...

NZ 'experts' love to bag Williamson too, then the Aust 'experts' are cracking on about what a good captain he is...

None of the current crop seem legitimately great tactical captains, but I think Williamson, Paine and Kohli are greatish "leaders"

No evidence to overturn the decision? How about no evidence of any contact with the glove?
Hate to agree with you but yeah, the 'snicker' [or whatever it's called] clearly showed it didn't touch the glove.
The very last hot shot replay showed a hot spot on the helmet.
Why didn't they show a side-on hot shot angle which would have proved the ball didn't hit the gloves?
In normal speed there were two sounds which probably led the umpire to give out.

To be blunt the big teams get home town umpiring calls... at least this one doesn’t seem crucial as we’re getting dominated

Any proof or just anecdotal evidence?

The decision was wrong and the process that didn't allow it to be turned around was wrong.

No need to come up with a conspiracy

The process does allow that to be overturned... there was no evidence whatsoever that he hit it... not a smidgen
