225/5 pretty even day I guess, making the Aussies work hard for runs

Pretty even day, wicket looks dry and already up and down.

If we can get to 300+ I think that puts us in the drivers seat with our attack. Batting last could be tricky.

big responsibility on Levers tonight, another 100 would be pretty handy

could be doable with Cummins still to bat

I read something like only twice has a side ever scored more than 200 to win at Durban. Not sure if it's 100% true but there's certainly not many big fourth innings scores

Add the slower late season pitch and you'd probably back yourself in with a 175 odd lead. This innings is big but the next two decide the match, if we can get a lead on SA in their first dig and can get that over 220 or so in our second we'll be looking really good

Agreed, 300 might end up a pretty handy score. Lyon should bowl well on this.

Alright,

fun fact time

Durban cricket ground

in 2006 Australia beat SA by 112 runs
in 2006 SA beat India by 174 runs
in 2008 SA beat the WI innings and 10 runs, BUT since then this deck has been a nightmare for them

7 tests since they have lost 5, won 1 and drawn 1 (vs NZ in 2016).
The 1 win was v India in 2013, oddly enough they won batting 2nd by 10 wickets
The 5 losses were twice against Poms, once against Australia, once against SL, once against India.
All the losses they batted 2nd .

Whilst history plays no guarantee its a nice omen for Australia to be in in this current test
Like most have said I think its important we try and get well over 300. if we don't that's ok, as long as we can be ahead (50+ at least?) on the 1st innings is ok too. At the end of the day we need to bowl well, they have a few quality players who can bat all day.

Wonder how many more chances Bancroft will get before Burns gets called back?

Well no one will be called in whilst they are on tour in SA (unless someone goes down injured)
and our next test series is like 6-7 months away

if we win this test, Bancroft will play in the 2nd. I guess review where he is at then. If we lose this test and he fails in the 2nd dig, not sure. They may put SMarsh in to open. Bringing in Hanscomb who is over there with the squad doesn't tickle my fancy though

Need 300 minimum, ideally around the 350 mark if we can imo. Then it's that little matter of dismissing the likes of Amla, ABVD and Du Farkwit cheaply.
Oh, and De Kokhead.

this deck was turning after 10 overs. I'm expecting a lead of 100 and its game over, It'll be tough to chase runs on a day 4-5 pitch.
