Root is an excellent player, if he could convert his 50s he'd be in the same bracket as Williamson who is a tier below Smith and Kholi.

Bairstow is not that far behind either, both he and Root would waltz into the Australian line up as would Stokes. Buttler has been disappointing but if he gets his act together he's got all the skills to be a very good long term test batsman.

The openers are no worse than ours.
