Its obvious we are all bitterly disappointed with season 2019.....allowing for injuries and suspensions etc we all know we should be doing much much better than we are....I think to be honest whilst its not good we could all live with that because at times great clubs fall on difficult times for whatever reason....but what has destroyed our passion confidence and hope for this club for the foreseeable future is the appointment of McGregor for another 2 years.....Im sure most of my fellow supporters would agree

We’ve got Mary for another two years?

Why hadn’t anyone mentioned that before?

This is an outrage!

What disappoints me more than anything is the way we play and the way we lose games.
We are soft as a marshmallow.
We lose by big margins. We capitulate.
There is no "backs to the wall" fight in us.
Critical games like Sunday against Canberra, mean nothing to us.
Where is our "siege" mentality at times like these?
Lance Thompson's memorial and Nightingale's last appearance at Kogarah was so embarrassing last year
Then it's the style of football we play.
One out stuff which is supposed to get us "into the grind" but we lose the grind most times now.
At the end of the day, league is a spectator sport and the club has an obligation to provide some entertainment for the fans.
Go down fighting at least.
These big losses are systemic and seem to be brushed off as "oh well, there's always next week".
It happened last year and the year before and the year before that.
It took Bennett one off season and some smart recruitment to solve the problem last time.
We have wasted nearly a decade experimenting with second rate, unqualified coaches.
The Board has been totally negligent and is incapable of making the hard decisions necessary to change our fortunes.

The question has to be asked,
Was the team making a statement about the goings on at the club?
We will probably never know the answer as I doubt anyone would admit to it.

We have been soft for many years
1992,1993 1996 1999gfs.
2005 semis ,semi against dogs a few years back, 2017 last game v dogs and last year.
Had heaps of chances .
When the tough get going we go in the opposite direction.

We are 2 wins and 8 losses since he got extended.

That's got to be some record for a coach who has just been re-signed.

I thought clarity on who the coach will be usually lifts a squad.

Instead we're boasting a 20% winning record. Think about that for sec!
Thanks giboz that was basically the crux of my thread its not the past but based on his recent results since his resigning theres really zero to look forward to.....

Wayne Bennett is one top grade coach who can put is finger straight onto a teams problem. In 2008 before coming to the SGI he identified the soft belly of our forward pack as the problem. So he turned to players like Wayman, Smith, Scott and Costigan as the backbone of our forward pack. Of course he brought Boyd with him and enticed Gasnier to return to the club in 2010, the season we finally won another competition.

Bennett brought the players together as a unit who worked for each other and devised a system where each player was responsible for a space on the field. Players had confidence in their team mates to do a job and when things went wrong, every player lifted to minimise the damage.

Move on to 2019 and there is no semblance of the team spirit introduced under the Bennett era. Former coach Price and former players Hornby and Young who all served under Bennett just didn't/don't have a clue on how to weave the Bennett magic.

He is one of the best man managers and had 30 + years experience. He is the only one to get the best out of Sowie & Weyman who struggled elsewhere and Hornby who was a great club servant and admirable fullback but moving him to 7 was a masterstroke.
Adding a couple of experienced hard heads including Priddis & then Fien for hookers were the glue.

Bennett is one of the best coaches to ever hold a clipboard and his exploits whilst coach at the Dragons will remain as the benchmark.
People are right in saying that he brought a team together, playing as a unit and his style of coaching was based on defense. Everyone knew their role and trusted each other.
Roll on 8 yrs and Bennett hasn't won a title since. Bad coaching? No, far from it, but the style of play and players have moved on.
The benchmark coach (since 2010) is now the likes of Bellamy (2 premierships 2 runners up) and Robinson (2 premierships). Hard nosed, no nonsense coaches who don't accept mediocrity and not afraid to make a hard call on a player. Results driven. Game plans designed when playing each team and not afraid to promote a player from juniors or CC . Not saying Bennett doesn't do this either but results are results.
Now, McGregor, mates with everyone, no game plan other than "power", not results driven, plays favourites, cannot bring himself to promote a player, excuses by the bucket load, happy to "make" the finals.
A coaches attitude and disposition is refected in the players. Bellamy for example, even when leading by 20 or more, completely loses his shit when a play breaks down. McGregor chews on a pen and sometime throws it.
The modern day coach v McGregor andcwe havec2 more years of this.
