Basing the results of injuries during the 2004 finals campaign, IMO the following would have been the 2004 GF team.

Actual Team

1. Luke Patten
2. Hazem El Masri
3. Ben Harris
4. Willie Tonga
5. Matt Utai
6. Braith Anasta
7. Brent Sherwin
8. Mark O'Meley
9. Adam Perry
11. Willie Mason
14. Reni Maitua
12. Andrew Ryan
13. Tony Grimaldi

15. Corey Hughes
16. Roy Asotasi
17. Sonny-Bill Williams
18. Jonathon Thurston

Would Have Been Team

1. Luke Patten
2. Hazem El Masri
3. Jamaal Lolesi
4. Willie Tonga
5. Matt Utai
6. Braith Anasta
7. Brent Sherwin
8. Mark O'Meley
9. Adam Perry
10. Steve Price
11. Willie Mason
12. Andrew Ryan
13. Tony Grimaldi

14. Reni Maitua
15. Corey Hughes
16. Roy Asotasi
17. Sonny-Bill Williams

^ ^ What a bench! No room for Thurston - who's the World Best Player!

What a team that was!

And yes, probably the best bench in the game....Asotasi (best forward), SBW (close to the in form player at the moment), Maitua and Hughes (both starting players this year). And yes, Thurston would of had no spot in the team.

Thurston is the biggest player the Dogs have lost... Anasta over Thurston....probably seemed right at the time.:?

Funny, the backline hasnt really changed and any player lost, has been replaced by a player as good as the one b4 him.

Its the strength of the bench that has made all the difference.

yeah he did, pity he got injured straight after that first game so he couldn't do more to make the lock position his own. Deserves another crack some time in the near future

brings you back when you think of how good our bench was in 04', so good that Thurston couldn't even get a go. Will always remember how SBW would come on off the bench and single-handedly change a game.

Do the players in both teams swap sides at half time - :sarcasm:
