2005 form should decide which of these guys the club tries to tie up before June 30.

But since we're just crystal ball gazing, my choices as of now would be:

Michael Vella - offer short (1-2 years) reduced contract if he stays in top 17
Daniel Wagon - offer 1-2 years if he holds down a spot in the forwards/bench
John Morris - offer short contract if he holds down a first grade spot
Eric Grothe - offer 1-2 years if he holds down a first grade spot
Matt Peterson - offer 1-2 years if he holds down a first grade spot
Dean Widders - one year at a time if he's still going good from bench
Chris Muckert - not fussed either way yet from little I've seen
Luke O'Dwyer - maybe offer a short contract if going good in PL?
Jack Afamasaga :thumn - a priority!
Matthew Nicholas - who's this bloke again?

Whose the kid we got from Wee Waa?

Zach Russ

mathew Nicholas is a bit of a mystery to all of us. There were suggestion he had signed about 6 months ago from Ipswich, if it's the same bloke? he's actually a Parramatta junior who spent a couple of season in Ipswich, he is a Winger/centre who may be training with the part time sqaud.

What Position does Russ Play?
Is he anygood?

he's a centre! however he is only 15 so we probably won't see him for a few years. he may still be at Wee Waa finishing his schooling

It may be a little too early to work this out yet, alot will be dependant on how they play and mesh in with each other.......

Michael Vella - Will have to see how he performs this year
Daniel Wagon - YES dependant on how he plays this year (in his actual position would be good).
John Morris - NO
Eric Grothe - YES
Matt Peterson - YES
Dean Widders - YES
Chris Muckert - Need to see how he plays this year
Luke O'Dwyer - Need to see how he plays this year
Jack Afamasaga - YES
Matthew Nicholas - Don't know how this guy plays yet
Tim Smith - YES

I think Jonny Morris is underated. I'd definately keep him even though we now have Riddell.

Very overrated IMO. Prone to brain explosions and undisciplined at times. Tries hard but if came to the crunch re salary cap and missing out on the likes of Afamasaga, Smith etc .... wouldn't be too dissapointed if he was sacrificed.

Causes to many penalties in the hooking role. But in 5/8 he is great. In 2003 we wouldnt have had that late surge if it hadnt of been for the role he played. Id like for the EELS to look into the future and get a set of young halves developing.

as I said previously, it's way too early to call however if rumours were correct both Morris and vella may be sacrificed to upgrade the younger blokes.

* Morris back to newcastle

* Vella to England or the Tigers.

thats my bold prediction ;-)

I can see Morris going but I doubt Vella will.

there were rumours last year he wanted out of his contract to join the Tigers!...obviously less competition for spots there ;-)

that was ofcourse after we signed Stringer and Morrison.

At this stage I don't really have an opinion, however it isn't a bad list to have.

Many of the listed group are inconsistant players imo and perhaps a new contract is great incentive to see these players give there all in 05!!

Does anyone know how old Matt Nicholas is? :?:

I'm almost sure we started a thread about him 4/5 months ago when he signed.

He's from the Brisbane comp if memory serves me correctly, I thought he was from Recliffe then Seagulls, the same feeder club we got O'Dwyer from.

He's a young centre about 18.
