The following players are off-contract at the end of 2005, they can all talk with other clubs after June 30.

Out of the following, who do you really want the club to keep and you do you think they can afford to let go for 2006?

Matt Jobson
Jeff Lima
Robert Miles
Chris Heighington
Matt Rieck
Joel Caine

Add any corrections or additions to that list via a reply if needed

Could a administrator or moderator make this topic a "Sticky" I feel as though it may come to some good use during the season, and when the June 30 deadline gets closer.

Thank-You in advance

caine is a good player if he can recapture his old form he could prove to be much to handle on the wing

I would resign Lima (depending on early performance, players often aren't the same after a nasty knee injury)

heigno

and Maybe Rieck (at present not a fan but will wait and see what he shows)

Thank god we can finally get rid of Robert Miles!

If Rieck even performs half decent, he will be at Wests for another year because of the 1yr Option.

You would not keep Miles for Premier League easing the youngsters through?

If the magpies want to take him off our hands then you can keep him

But Miles playing for Balmain is going to mean one of several wingers we have (that actually have promise) being held back.

Besides the sort of player I would choose to help the youngsters, if we needed someone like that, would be someone who WAS good but is now past it, A player that still has the skills and knowledge to pass on. Miles imo was never the sort of player I would want in that role because he's never been more than a solid first grader (and that only at weak clubs).

Rhino would be the only player out of that lot that I would consider re-signing. Rieck reminds me too much of Miles, I've seen quite a bit of Jobson and don't rate him, Caine has too many defensive flaws and I think Lima although aggressive and intimidating is too inconsistent for a first grade prop.

inconsistancy has been a problem for Jeff but you've got to remember his age

Very few props get any sort of real form or consistancy until they hit around 23 or so, and the fact that Balmain kept trying to switch Jeff to the back row (which he just isn't suited to) didn't help with that - all of his good games last year were played from prop and just about every one of his bad games in the back row

this will be a make or break year for him though

Mate,i think you are very wrong about Rieck,Lima and Jobson.I think that both Rieck and Lima are both very under rated and will prove themselves to be very good 1st graders this season.Whilst i can see why you or anyone else would not be too enthused about Matty Jobson`s ability, from what i`ve seen of him which is only really 3-4 games,he looks to be a very strong runner of the ball.I suppose we`ll all find out if he has what it takes by the end of this season. If he doesn`t perform this year,he can kiss his NRL career good bye!

Whats the go with Matt Riek?

He came on as a bit of a book colt at Penrith, left mid season to join the sharkies and now he's at the Tigers, not that I'm complaining because, generally speaking, I havnt been happy with our wingers in the past and havnt had a real killer instanct winger when it comes to putting the ball over the line. (Generally speaking, not bagging them I just wasn't impressed with them)

From Riek's first couple of games at the Penny Panthers he seemed a young kid with that instinct in him yet I saw bugger all of him last year and some Shark fans are cheering to be rid of him, so has anybody got some more info on him.

How did he go last year? what are his Strength/Weaknesses? Why 3 three clubs so soon in his career?

Cheers in adavance.

Well for us he could not handle the ball, and his defence was not great(in saying that our whole backlines defence was sad).I think sheens will get the best from him and you guys are on a winner. One thing is for sure if he gets in the clear its all over. Good luck

Well I hope I'm proven wrong about Lima, but as for Jobson I've watched him play from about Jersey Flegg and even back then although he did put in the effort, he was not one of Newcastle's better forwards as far as ability. I dare say that if the Knights didn't have as many injuries as they did in 2003 he would not have played much first grade, but I suppose if Sheens can find something in there he may prove useful for the Tigers.

Scored something like 10 trys in 12 games in '04, add to that 5 trys against the Magpies. Maggies weren't playing bad, it was just Rieck is too good for Premier League.

Hold on a minute. Joel Caine is playing for us again?!?!?!?!

.... WHY?

Balmain signed him, not Wests Tigers, maybe from lack of Wingers? They lost Kelly and Carney for '05.

I might not have the eye of the tiger but the tigers would be mad to let go Heighnigton.
He looks like a promising player for the future
