I don't know if this article is current, because it is not dated, but I think the student cup would be an excellent event for the US to put on, and 2005 should see the game in the US developed to a standard where they will not be disgraced at a student level, assuming they recruit some student players from the RU ranks for this tournament over the next two seasons.

I think most of us remember this piece of gold. It appeared before the last Student World Cup, which became a 3 way tournament between Italy (I doubt they were all students??) Tartarstan (Kazan Arrows) and Scotland I think. Anyway, whoever it was, the tournament was a joke, team after team pulled out coz of lack of money/desire to make the trip. I'm pretty sure after this any plans for another Student WC have been scrapped, in the US or anywhere else.
Sorry Roopy, another disappointment I fear.

As Queensland and NSW cannot agree on what makes an eligible "student" the last Student World Cup was very poorly attended.

QSRL and NSWSRL have differing views as to a student. QSRL and University Sports has been trying to organise it however will only allow university students to be eligible for selection. The NSW interpretation allows for any student - University, TAFE student or Apprentice or anyone completing a course of one year or more in duration to be eligible.

England and Neil Wood (this includes Ireland, Wales and Scotland) also adhere to the NSW interpretation.

The last World Cup that was to be held in Italy was not attended by Australia due to the problem around eligibility.

The Europa Cup that was held in Kazan in 2001 consisting of England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland along with the Kazan Arrows, Moscow Magicians and NSWSRL.
