2006 QRL Crowds

Hi All,

There has been a some talk that the Qld Competition has been going through a renaissance over the last couple of years with increased support, sponsorship and media coverage (I watch it myself on ABC2 and will do this year when it comes back!). Has this increased interest been demonstrated in the crowds that have attended the games in the first two rounds?

good numbers seem to be attracted to easts and redcliffe matches some clubs still small though. The standard seems to be getting better. It's seems to be the new breeding ground for solid players like it used to be. ie Slater, Stagg, Inglis, C Smith, M King, Matt Geyer, S Tronc, G Cooper. Bronco's I think have recognised this and tried to recreate a connection to the Brisbane clubs before a Sydney Club managed to latch onto a clubs program properly.

2000+ at Langlands today to watch the mighty Clydesdales overcome the Tigers in an absolute thriller. Great crowd, great game.

While there probably wasn't a big crowd there, the stands and facilities are on the same side as the camera at Piggabeen. You're out in the middle of nowhere on the far side of the ground.

I still think souths Logan should have a game or 2 at Meakin Park, I know it's not the best ground going round and the facilities may not be the best but you'd get a good crowd there!

I went to the Tweed Heads-Norths game at Tweed a few weeks ago - driving home from Ballina and just decided to drop in to see my Devils play in the flesh (and for a sense of nostalgia - the family used to travel to the Tweed a few times a year to see the Seagulls play in the NSWRL)

The concrete seating at Piggabeen for Tweed-Norths was fairly full, but I thought they'd get a bit bigger crowd down there actually.

Mind you, I wouldn't really know what a decent QLD Cup crowd is, as the last QRL regular season game I saw was Norths v Wests at Bishop Park in about 1992 or 1993 (anyone remember Paddy Tuimavave?!)

BTW, the Piggabeen ground is just too hard to find I reckon!

Nice spot when you find it, though. Unless, of course, that four inches of rain falls during the afternoon as it did when Wynnum played there in 2003.

Another good crowd on hand for Toowoomba's game against Redcliffe on Sunday afternoon. It's always a good atmosphere there - as much as I hate the Dolphins there is always a great crowd in their red and white to watch the game.

It doesn't happen often, but there's nothing quite like being at Dolphin Oval when my Clydies win :D

The WARL comp get as many if not more to games than the QRL yet most clubs dont have enclosed stadia at all!

Probably get more media coverage as well.

From wat i saw on TV today, it looked like a good 2-3000 at the Gold Coast derby today. Was anyone there who can let us know more accurately?

PS: The Pizzey Park field is as good as any in the NRL, better than some

I wanna come to Australia in 2007, and plan to take in a few Famous names , Tweeds Head, Toowoomba, Redcliffe, Newtown, as well as some of the Big games. Its great to see the talent that these teams are producing.
