broncos/raiders won't draw anything near what last Friday night did.

Normally it wouldn't.

A Raiders game would usually be a 25-27K job.

But apart from being the last home game for the year, it's also the farewell for 5 players who have featured heavily in Brisbane teams over the last decade, with Big Civ heading the list. I know Webcke's a class above, but his farewell against the Warriors drew close to 50,000 last year.

Therefore, I think 30,000+ is quite gettable and to be honest i'd be dissapointed if it ends up being anything less.

Im actually really surprised at how poor souths crowds are.
This is their best year for 20 and they have a gutsy side that could win any game.
I always hear how well supported they are but this doesnt transfer into bums onseats.
Maybe their supporters are too old now...maybe they havent picked up many new supporters in the last 20 years and only kept supporters with family ties.
You watch them flock now...
I actually dont know any souths fans and I work in the area...and live in the inner west.

Their games against both Penrith and Manly were affected by incredibly poor weather. Disappointing yes, but not without reason.

Should be a bumper round

With now both the Tigers and the Warriors hammering up sold out signs for Sunday the state of our crowds seems to be rising for finals fever yet again

They got 46k to final game at Suncorp last year, against NZ

Theres thousands of Kiwis in Brisbane.

Although Raiders/Broncos i think normally would draw an average crowd even in Brisbane, its their last chance to make the 8 and last Broncos game for 5 Broncos players mainly Civo so i reckon they will pull another 35 thousand.

Some of what you say is true. There weren't many kids when I was growing up that wanted to support Souths by choice. Most guys like me simply grew up with them and it's in the blood to be a Souths supporter.

However, I think you're a little off the mark with the Souths crowds. We're what, the 4th most watched team in terms of crowd numbers in Sydney, after the Bulldogs (2004 GF winners and always a finals team), Tigers (2005 GF winners, with support of 2 clubs), and Manly (currently 2nd placed).

The ONLY Sydney teams we've played at home have been:
Parramatta (15165 - good crowd)
Bulldogs (34315 - great crowd, with help of the hype and Dogs supporters)
Penrith (5053 - worst weather Sydney has seen in 50 years)
Cronulla (9568 - I agree, poor crowd)
Manly (12087 - solid crowd considering weather)

So our crowds have been decent, the disappointing ones being Cronulla and Manly, probably the worst 2 away supported teams in the League.

Unfortunately, there are thousands of "supporters" out there, but it will take Souths being a Top 4 side before they start coming out of the woodwork - and when they do, the staunch ones will know who we are.

MT SMART STADIUM SOLD OUT FOR VODAFONE WARRIORS-MANLY CLASH ON SUNDAY

Auckland, New Zealand, August 24, 2007 - The Vodafone Warriors have sold
out a regular season game at Mt Smart Stadium for the first time since
the club's debut year in 1995.

Chief executive Wayne Scurrah today announced 26,672 tickets had gone as
Vodafone Warriors ambassador Peter Leitch hammered in a 'sold out' sign
outside the ground.

"We're absolutely delighted with the way our loyal fans and the general
sporting public have got in behind us throughout the season and
especially for this game," he said.

"Tickets for the Manly match were selling at an amazing rate last week
and now we've seen the last few hundred go on the northern embankment.

"Apart from 1995, this is the first regular season match that has been
sold out before the game has been played."

The club's record attendance for a home game is listed as 32,174 for the
round six clash against Illawarra in 1995, when the then-named Ericsson
Stadium had a bigger capacity.

The ground was also sold out for the Vodafone Warriors' historic first
home play-off against Canberra in 2002.

The huge crowd for the Manly game follows an attendance of 20,609 at the
club's previous home match against Gold Coast.

everyone was sitting up high coz of the rain...the north west corner where i was sitting was PACKED about 6/7 bays across and most of the way down. That was on the camera side of the field though. I predicted 21k at the ground and i was very close.

Considering there would be very few Storm fans at the ground and the weather that's a great crowd - I was expecting around 12k TBH.

A great crowd in cool and showery conditions, I wasn't expecting it. The vast majority was on the tunnel side and not visible on Tele but the figure is spot on.
