More positive press...

...

There are more warnings.

Rugby league's 2008 World Cup was launched last week and already this tournament is different from previous, failed league world cups, if only for the fact it is almost already paid for.

Broadcast rights and sponsorship already in place mean only a complete disaster at the gate will see the tournament finish in the red.

Tournament director Colin Love has already said the Rugby League International Federation will use much of the profit to pour into developing nations like Samoa and Tonga - nations shamefully ignored by self-interests within the IRB.

Top-tier nations such as Ireland, Wales and Scotland don't want to invest in the Pacific nations as much as they know they need to because they fear it could eventually render their own status as redundant.

Why should they retain top-tier status, they fear the argument will go, if the second-tier nations from the Pacific can continually beat them?

Privately, many of the second-tier nations complained of their treatment while in France.

If league starts putting money into what is the other game over there, sooner rather than later many of those union players will start moving across.

And what then?

Jones is across these ideas, and has the nous to make this coaching stint a success.

He is just the man the other codes don't want to see.
