Should there be a LU luncheon as well to present to trophy to FFMM?

We could charge like $500 per head

Why not ask if you can present Fui trophy there. I am sure Terry L would be able to arrange it...

My boss is a nutcase Eels fan, he might have given the club a very good deal with it. We're expecting a fair few people in and im not sure if Parra Leagues would have the facilities to accomodate.

Ok, so the lunch was yesterday and I worked the whole bloody day, 13 hour shift, awesome stuff.

160 people turned up, including players, sponsors and people that bought seats for it.
The players all sat at seperate tables with the guests and sponsors. I do have to be honest though, a couple of the playerss werent exactly interactive with people. Especially two of our most senior who quite honestly looked as if they were hung over. I was very dissapointed with them considering their stature within the club.

On the plus side, a few players were very very good. Ben Smith, Tim Mannah and Shane Shackleton were the stand outs, laughing joking and were just in general really good guys, 10 points to them. Daniel Mortimer was very shy but he did try his best, even though i did catch him checking out one of my work mates, whom is a hottie I must admit. Good taste Morts.

Fui Fui, Kris Keating, Matt Keating, Jarryd Hayne and Krisnan Inu were not there.

When the players were brought up on stage by the Big Marn, a few were interviewed directly, DA mostly. What he said was typically what you would hear in the media, dissapointed to lose the GF, very positive about next year, great set of players blah blah blah. Tahu copped it badly from Brohman for going to Union, and Poore too for playing with the Dragons. Shack no so much for playing with the Roosters.

There was a framed jersey signed by Eels Legends including Price, Thornett (both), Sterling, Kenny, etc etc. That went for $2700.

The best part of the day for me was the comedian, cant remember his name. Vince something, he's the guy who is the Blues comedian at Origin matches. Very funny man.

Overall it was a good performance from the club and most players, hope they come back. There should be photos popping up sometime soon on the Eels website.

For those wondering, no player drank as they had training later in the day. Infact no one who worked for the club, including Ozzie and Roy Spagnolo didnt drink at all.

Special thanks to Steve Edge for taking my jersey and offering to have it signed by all the players, even ones who werent there yesterday.

They are great days aren't they. I love going up to Brisbane for the SOO lunches every year. It is one of the highlights of my football season.
I would love to go to a dinner like that. Wished I lived in Sydney at times like those.
The Big Marn is a very funny bloke. I sat next to him at one of the SOO dinners a couple of years ago..and across the table from Les Boyd..It was an interesting experience to say the least. I had DB on one side, Nick Walshaw on the other, with Bomber Peard, Tony Butterfield, Danny McMaster, Danny's wife and Bob West (One Steel GM) also on the table.
Should be more of the Eels luncheons. Great day for the fans to get to know the players. Well done, and thanks OET for the report.

PS....Was Bomber Peard there? He would play half the paid comedians off a break. Bomber is one very funny bloke, and he still loves the Eels.

I also want to say that Nathan Hindmarsh was the first person to arrive and the last player to leave. Good stuff, needs a shave though. (well, they all do, except Morts who I dont think can grow facial hair yet)

Nice, a bit crappy that 5 Grand Finalists weren't in attendance though, I'm gathering along with Kinga and Joey G that only made 10 actual Grand Final players??

At $110 a pop, I'd expect it to be a compulsary event for players.

Now that iv been around a few NRL teams and players from various clubs, two things strike me.

One is the bond within the team. The players are so tight together that its good they have such good friendships in their profession, makes work and life so much better. I envy them in that part (although I love my work life at the moment)

The other is that they all have to pose and be fake in public, they cant just be themselves really. Some can like Tim Mannah and Wendel Sailor, but other players are just so scripted and TOO professional in the public because they know that they are being watched by vultures. It is so sad because talking to a few players, they really are just normal blokes, just like the rest of us, they have their odd balls in the group just like the rest of us but because of their profession, they cant just be themselves for fear of being publically prosecuted for having a beer or laughing too loudly or what ever society finds unacceptable from Rugby League players.

A mate of mine who came through the Penrith junior system, gave the game away because of the pressure the clubs put on him to "act and behave responsibly". The guy couldnt go to a party, get hammered with us, chat up girls etc etc etc and he was only 19 friggin years old. I friggin hate the media and the pressure it puts our players under and I hate those of the public that buy into that horse sh*t.

(sorry, little rant, but Im quite upset about those 2 players because I will not believe that they had been drinking the night before)
