2010 'ANZAC' Test...

Well, the Kiwis have buckled again and decided to accept the 2010 'ANZAC' Test and no doubt will again whinge - and rightly so - that ESL players will not be available and some NRL players will have a sudden injury that stops them playing a Test, but miracuously recover the next NRL round..

However, I am looking forward to this Test and there are some good reasons..

We should have a sellout. Melbourne Tests have had no problem getting 30,000 and this new Stadium is a 31,000 seater. The stadium reminds me of Skilled Stadium on the Gold Coast and that stadium looks bloody good with 20,000 there and Skilled holds 26,000. This Test will look good..

Asotasi, Ropati, Lima and Vatuvei will hopefully be fit and add the Kiwis who did such a good job on debut and there seemingly new lack of fear of the Kangaroos and we should see a classic example why top flight Test Rugby League has few equal in the sporting world..

If the Kiwis win or are within a whisker of a win, it will give us a taste of the 2010 Four Nations..

Bring it on..

It'll sell out easily, if for no other reason than it's the first game as the stadium.

I think it would've sold out regardless - they've got 30,000+ for the two tests there since 2006.

Its a pity too, I think the Storm could've used the lure of a brand new opening much more than this test does, crowd wise.

Ok. How did Brisbane lose it? Also when was the last time an ANZAC Test was played on ANZAC Day or on a weekend closest to it?

I think the original SL one was probably the only one actually played on Anzac Day. But it was played on the nearest Friday night for a few years afterwards, except in 2002 when GB played, up until about 2006 or so. Then they moved it to early May.

The “Anzac Test” was first played on Fri 23 April 1997 under Super League. After the Super League war, the “Anzac Test” was the official title of matches played in close proximity to Anzac Day between the Kangaroos and Kiwis from 1998 to 2000. Tests were then moved to after Origin in July.

The “Anzac Test” returned to the calendar in 2004 - but it was a one-off - it hasn't been held since.

From 2005 onwards it has been officially known as the “Bundaberg Rum League Test”, with three of the past four years seeing the match in early May.
The 2008 May match was the Centenary Test match between Aust & NZ.

Despite the matches now being in May, the match not being claimed as an Anzac Day match by the ARL/NRL, and there being no pre-match Anzac Day commemoration, many amongst the media and public continue to (mistakenly) refer to it as the “Anzac Test.”

If it needs to be called anything, it is the "annual Autumn Test".

Lol..

I think the media and the public call it the 'ANZAC' Test (and I wrote my OP with the commas) because 'ANZAC' is less time consuming than the 'Bundaberg rum Lea...' or 'Annual Lea.....' titles..

I shall continue to call it the 'ANZAC' Test.. ;-)

With NZRL looking at staging the 2011 ANZAC Test, maybe they will play it on ANZAC day is there is no other sports that i can think of off the top of my head that is played that day in NZ.

If they make it a Military day ie: NZDF vs ADF as the curtain raiser....then they would get a big crowd IMO.

Every year the Kiwis go well for 20 minutes or in the first half, and then self destruct in the one off test matches, or whatever you want to call it.

They seem to only put in at the end of the year for major tournaments.

The upside to this game is that this will be the first game at the new stadium. Hopefully a capacity crowd.

I am glad they get 2011 in NZ... its only been played there once! hardly fair, but it does need to turn a profit i guess. I want to go to this game badly, but I will probably be in Sydney or Europe... ><
