Was mentioned in crowd watch but I thought it's a big achievement and deserves its own thread.

Total Season Aggregate Attendance - 3,490,778 - previous record 3,435,929 (2009)
Total Season Game Average - 17,367 - previous record 17,337 (2005)

And that was done without 3 of the top supported clubs ( Parra, Dogs and Broncos) in the finals.

Well done NRL !!

Yep, a good year for crowds especially when you consider some bigger sides were out of form and the whole Storm scandal. Hopefully there are no major incidents next year as i believe we will crack the highest regular season avg ever.

That, and Sydney teams being willing to transfer their home games for the big games where they know they can get 30k plus

Yep, except for the Storm Saga and this new betting scandal, it was a pretty damn good year and next year will be even better.

To add to that comment about memberships + transferring game -

The NRL needs to go to a mixtured fixture - that is every club has 6 games locked in with dates and times and the start of the season - these are the blockbuster matches like Bulldogs vs Eels etc that guarantee a crowd + a TV audience.

That way fans can make arrangements before the season begins for these games and clubs get a guarantee minimum amount of TV coverage.

Then - the remaining 6 homes games for teams would be played on a floating schedule as currently done, to maximise top of the table clashes for TV.

That way we get: Big Fixed Games for Attendance + Top Games For TV = more $$$

Now all we need is beat that figure next year which has proven to be a major challenge in the past.

Interesting idea, docbrown. Maybe start with 1 to 3 games per club, see how it goes and build from there...

the Knights will do their part in raising that figure even further next year with a full stadium to work with.

clubs should look to take their lowest drawing fixtures elsewhere. 15k in Perth or 20k in Christchurch is better than sub 10k crowds in Sydney.

I wonder if the clubs and the NRL could do on-line surveys for the fans.
Maybe the clubs/NRL can offer cheaper tickets for esp if the games are at the SFS/ANZ.Be great to see crowds of 20000-30000 at the SFS and 30000-40000 at the ANZ every week.
Plus to make the live experience even better food and drink needs to be at a fair and decent price esp for familys alongside safety stewards need to know they are not policemen but there for the fans and not act like rent-a-cops.

Was at ANZ for Tigers game. Bought 2 packets of twisties they cost be $9 something. That's nearly extortion.

We meet some friends with kids and were new Dragons fans, one of the young ones got a Dragons shirt as the other already had one and they both got numbers on them, it cost $80.00. I didn't ask how much was spent on food and drinks for the kids and add the match tickets for the final, plus membership to Jubilee, I don't have a family and just got a membership. I feel for families.

On the security matter, I think ANZ got it right with the police presence. At Kogarah, there is general duty cops visible however, at ANZ there were riot squad cops everywhere and they were huge.

I don't get the funny part, care to enlighten me?

Parra is the 2nd most watched team in Australia, second to Brisbane Broncos and this is including the AFL. Collingwood is third FYI. (http://www.smh.com.au/sport/tv-deals-to-reward-wealthiest-footy-clubs-20100828-13wtr.html)

Im assuming you support the West Tigers so im going to make a comparison to you guys. Look at where you guys came on the ladder (3rd) and your crowd average for 2010 was 18, 086 and look at where we came ( 12th) and our home crowd average was 17, 080 ( and that includes 3 sell outs, im pretty sure you guys had one at leaichardt oval? ). We beat all other sydney teams barring you guys, bulldogs and souths.

All this has been done in the thread " which club has the most fans' so feel free to go back to that and have a look. Im not just saying we're ONE OF the most supported clubs because im a parra fan, im saying it because its a fact.

Memberships is the key to it all. If you feel part of the club you will be more inclined to come along.

Interesting that Brisbane and Parramatta are the two highest supported TV clubs. That tells me there are a lot followers out there whom are not paying at the turnstiles for these two clubs possibly. I would love to see the day when every club was getting minimum 20,000 every week.

Be interesting to see the gowth next year at the turnstiles.
