Just quietly, everyone is saying give it to Japan, as it would help expand the game and whatnot.

Going of the 2007 WC, doesn't that argument make more sense if we say give it to Canada or the US? Or a combined bid?

Anyone see pulp sport the other night? For those who didn't the regular Hell pizza bet loser had to walk through Christchurch dressed as a Saffer with a "McCaw is a cheat" sign around his neck. It was embarrassing for Cantabs how many took it personally and abused the guy - especially the women. I just think it goes to show that kiwi rugby fans can be arrogant f**kwits.

On Banksie - I hate the guy but good on him for telling the union/govt to piss off. Union is the biggest sport in this country, if they can't fund their own stadium its not our fault.

But it shouldn't just be "their stadium" it should exist for all sports and events. Thats why I would have rather seen the waterfront stadium developed.

it was crazy that they didnt go with it.... the NZ govt pretty much promised to fund it all...

Yep, typical of NZ and particularly Auckland. Someone has an idea to do something ambitious and do it properly, and the usual suspects find reasons NOT to do it, and go with a half-arsed solution instead. I almost wish Trevor Mallard had just said "f**k yous all, we need a national stadium and I'm building one" but he'd never have got away with it.

As much as it pains me to say it if that had been somewhere in Australia they'd have the thing half built by now.
