A fresh start for the AMNRL's Nova Eagles
TheNorthern Virginia Eagles are the first team to be featured in Rugby League Planet's series of season previews of American National Rugby League (AMNRL) and United States Rugby League (USARL) teams. Nova Eagles president and coach, Christian Seaman, talks about his side's return to the league.
The Eagles emblem may be familiar to long-term followers of the American National Rugby League (AMNRL), but everything else about the Northern Virginia Eagles will be new for the competition's latest comeback kids.
Playing as the Fairfax Eagles from 2007 when they debuted to 2010, the team suddenly collapsed in the pre-season of 2011, following the unexpected transfer in employment of then president, Steve Grant, a fortnight before competition kick-off.
Now the Eagles are back, with a fresh name to reflect their new home in Warrenton, about 40m away from their previous base in Falls Church, Fairfax County. "We decided to use this facility because it was a lot cheaper than any fields in the Northern Virginia area," explains current president, Christian Seaman. Also by renting this field for our home games we are supporting a Rugby Union team based out of Warrenton."
Its a relationship Seaman sees the Eagles benefiting from. "With the Union season just ending we are expecting to bring some other players over."
The reason for this need is there is little legacy left from the Eagles' previous incarnation....
