Righteo, as usual, we have major tournaments taking place right across this great southern land of ours this Summer.

Let's kick thing off with the Hopman Cup.

Starting tomorrow at 10:30am, we'll have Spain taking on South Africa. Tomorrow evening from 6:00pm, we'll have us Aussies taking on the Germans.

Sunday will feature the USA taking on South Africa during the day, and Spain taking on neighbours France in the evening.

The television schedule for both days this weekend are as follows:

Channel 10 will be broadcasting the action from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, at 5:00pm One HD will take over, (sadly for only an hour), before returning to 10 at 8:30.

Well here's a low-blow early... Nadal is out of the Australian Open due to injury. That gives Novak an express pass to the final!

Terrific match between Tomic and Haas I hear. The young fella got through 7-6 (8-6) 3-6 7-5

Hopefully he has his head out of his arse and can make some amends this year.

I'm looking forward to seeing Andy Murray after final winning his first grand slam and getting that monkey off his back, it's time for him to redeem himself for his previous Australian Open finals appearances.

The news about Nadal sucks and should really affect his ranking, but if he returns for the clay season and win the Garros and other majors, he should claw a lot of the points back

Australia complete a clean sweep defeating Germany 2-0, but, Andrea Petkovic was up a set again 16 year old Ashleigh Barty before injury struck and she was forced to retire. As a result of her injury, there was no need for a mixed doubles match. Now we look to Wednesday night when we face #1 ranked Serbia.

Just on Tomic, hats off to his never-say-die attitude. He was down in the first set tie-breaker 6-1, and Haas had 5 set points. Tomic dug deep and won the next 7 games straight to take out the tie-breaker (and the first set), which eventually played a big part in him winning the match.

Spain also were successful on day 1, defeating South Africa 2-1. Fernando Verdasco lost in his singles match (believe it or not), so he was lucky to get a chance to redeem himself in the mixed doubles.

Good stuff to get past Germany I didn't expect it to be honest.

Well I might as well post this one here. Little know Aussie Bobusic Bojana has qualified for the Brisbane international today. The 25 year old beat Czech Karolína Plíšková 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Oh no. Terrible news for Andrea... looks like her whole Aussie summer is over :(

So it's a rupture of the meniscus, back to Germany as soon as possible for an arthroscopy. Relieved it wasn't the ACL again.

Andrea Petkovic ‏@andreapetkovic
On the to-do-list: 1.Cut my hair. Short. Very short. 2.Dye it pink or blonde 3.Hold Rafa's hand until we're both healthy again.

Just kidding. I would never do that......the Rafa thing, I mean ;)
Good to see it wasn't an ACL, however a torn meniscus isn't that much better. Also good to see she hasn't lost her sense of humor. Here's to hoping she'll be back on her feet soon. So sad. She's one of my favs :(

Looks like we won't be seeing the dance this January.

Sam Stosur and Maria Sharapova both eliminated from Brisbane.

Over in Perth, France are 1-0 up against USA while the womens match is underway.

Well Hewitt won in Brisbane, and I must say, that is a surprise.

Back over in Perth, Venus Williams won her match keeping the USA in the tie. Then she teamed up with Isner to win the mixed doubles. Great comeback by the Americans!

Hewitt will be better for the run...looked out of energy in that second set.

My tips are Serena and Novak for the big one. Im very keen to see hoe a guy named Jerzy Janowitz goes....he has a huge game.

Anyone but Novak and FedEx for me. Would love to see one of our own, but I think we're still at least a decade away from anything happening there. Verdasco might be a good chance with Rafa out.
