Matt Thompson will call the state game. A very good caller who should get more NRL calls at nine. Gets a bit excited but is never fake or patronising.

Fox still has Tapp, whose disgraceful pronunciation of Polynesian names clearly shows there is no requirement on talent to call a game these days.

Don't really know who to go for here. A Queensland side who are the underdogs or the nsw side who are the favourites?

Anyone else sick of the f**king warriors winning the 20 all the time?

Feel bad for the kid that missed the goal. Looked shattered when they showed him after the siren

Would have to go down as one of the more memorable 18th birthdays in Rugby League history. Poor Jayden, thought he was close to the best on park and really it was him and his brother Kodi who got things happening for the Broncos.

I wonder if the Warriors success has anything to do with the NYC being canned? Which isn't to say the NRL administration sat around and thought 'oh Auckland won 3 premierships, we better put a stop to this' but how this level tends to reward bad habits.

I had never thought about it before, but the Broncos NYC coach made a good point when he said apart of the reason they decided to keep the Broncos players in the 20s was because they wanted to get them used to the travel and the demands they have on the players.

I don't know exactly what the NRL is planning but if they plan to re-instate an open ages reserve grade I believe the quality of the game will improve ten-fold.

Still, I want to stress that the Warriors have plenty of genuine talent coming through and they sort of won on the back of making mature decisions to develop their best in the NSW Cup. Can't fault them, the better team won on the day.

Beautiful balance not to go into touch.

That's the danger for the Pride. They're a well drilled team, but the Panthers have that extra spark than can create something from nothing.

Interesting point on the 20's getting used to travel. I suppose the Warriors NSW Cup team gets that as well so it's not really a factor.

The thing some people tend to forget is that it takes more than raw talent/size/power etc to make it in first grade. Guys like Hurrell, Kata, Laumape etc don't start their league education until well into their teens. Australian league systems start a ;lot early and does a better job of preparing players for first grade.

In NYC those physical attributes can give a team an edge, but when they reach first grade and everyone else is of similar physical maturity the other side of the game is what catches up with a lot of the Warriors boys.

The NZ league systems at junior levels are poor, and we poach a lot of top union talent, but unfortunately that means re-educating them in the finer points of the game that players in better systems have already had drilled into them.

The recent change to put our best NYC talent in NSW Cup is definitely a smart move for us.
