well you've clearly got the memory of a fish, merkin
i would say a difference of about 7 degrees is the norm in summer between the coast and the west and 10 would be common - only the ridiculously hot days where the wind is from the west/north-west is it the same on the coast ..... i grew up in the west, now live closer to the coast - there is a noticable difference .... peats is a smart fella, he knows his shit - unlike other merkins
It has been a while since I lived in Sydney and worked outdoors, but the BoM says a difference of 10 degrees is certainly not common. Even a difference of 7 degrees is more than three times the difference between the mean maximum temperatures in January (the hottest month):
Parramatta
Sydney
The difference between the mean maximum temperatures in the hottest month (January) is only 2.2 degrees.
The difference in the annual mean maximum temperatures is only 1.4 degrees.
The difference in the mean minimums in the coldest month (July) is actually greater, with Parramatta being 3.5 degrees colder in July. And 2.9 degrees colder (mean minimum) annually.
As you'd expect.
