Just having a look at our current top 25 and not allowing for any signings we will make (apart from Hoppa of course) between now and then, I like the look of what could easily be our top 17 in 2014 (ages in brackets)

1. Hayne (26)
2. Sio (24)
3. Hoppa (22)
4. Blair (22)
5. Jacob Gagan (21)
6. Mullaney (24)
7. Sandow (25)
8. Mannah (26)
9. Keating (28)
10. Allgood (25)
11. Ryan (24)
12. Loko (22)
13. Paulo (26)

14. Nathan Smith (26)
15. Terepo (22)
16. New Signing
17. New Signing

A good mix of youth and experience and most of these guys would have played together for 2 or more years.

I thought Hayne was under contract for 2014? Giving us at least the one year with Hayne and Hopoate playing together?

Looking like an ok squad MJC, with a bit of coin to throw at some signings to pad it out.

Nope, his contract expires at the end of next season.

Old man Matt Keating. LOL
When you see the ages pan out like that, maybe that's why he's in the leadership group and doing a fair share of post-match media duties.

Ok. Some sites list him as with us in 2014 and I was hoping there might be an option in the club's favour...

Not all of those players are contracted for 2014 though. Keating, Blair, Mullaney, Allgood and Loko aren't. Regardless, that's a squad that's full of potentially good players rather than proven first graders so it's nothing to get excited about yet.

#4th year into the plan.

I believe the option is in Hayne's favour. I can't imagine a player with Hayne's high stature letting the club have an option in their favour. No player manager would agree to that.

I have highlighted the ones that are already first graders and with another year (plus the rest of this year) under their belt will have at least 40 first grade games each (pending injury) - Loko will have less because he misses 2012.

If we keep them all (and I acknowledge they haven't all signed to 2014) they will be proven first graders by then (or dropped and not re-signed).

Sadly it's true!

2009 he signed a 4 year deal

4 years = 2010; 2011; 2012; 2013

Hopefully we have an early dig at sewing him up long term in the off-season (before we start abysmally in 2013 again).

Dont count on Gagan hes off contract and all indications hes not feeling the love and dont be surprised if his manager moves him.

That's fair enough. Of the younger guys though, current players like Ryan and Blair for example, while they show promise we don't really know much good they are going to be or if they are going to become career first graders at all. When I look at that side, I see 3 rep players. Maybe a couple of others who are solid first graders, a couple of others who I'm very confident will be, and then a bunch of unknown quantities. So it's probably a bit early to get excited.

Not bad. But I think Mullaney at five-eight is just a blind guess, isn`t it? He hasn`t played first grade yet (with us, anyway) and to be honest, he doesn`t impress me all that much. I`d rather we buy a quality five-eight. I reckon this team is crying out for a very good five-eight. If you put a Braith Anasta or John Sutton or James Maloney or Keiren Foran into the six jumper in that team you named, then you`d get me excited at the potential of that backline. I guess a lot of people would put Hoppoate at fulback and Hayne at five-eight - but I`m not sold on Hayne as a six.

I put only players ths are on our books. Didn't want any one thinking I know more after my chat with Nolan.

I'm not too sure some of these will ever see first grade and there are a few others that I would think will be in these spots that you haven't listed.

Ah, I see. Would that be a little clue that we might buy a five-eight?

You're pretty keen for us to pick up a number six.

What kind of five-eighth do you think would suit our team best, and how would you use him if you were in charge?
