This match is bizarre. Errors everywhere...then brilliance...then more errors..then a bit of brilliance.

Congrats Novak. Stan juuuust couldn't get that break in the fifth and couldn't get up after that. Still, wonderful effort in defending the title, taking the world #1 to 5 sets in a semi.

Yes!

Novak saves tennis, thank goodness!

Though now you must at least think more of Stan. Not many players fluke their way to a 5th set in a semi against the #1...after being 9-0 this year, winning Davis Cup and being a defending Grand Slam champ ;-)

At least he didn't get his usual 15 let cords tonight, actually played well. Novak was on top in most sets, and if he wasn't being drunk would have walked it in in the 4th. Stan did play well, FH has improved.

The match was on Stan's racquet. What did he have...about 60 UEs, about half as many winners? Had he painted the lines like he did last round he'd have got it in 4. But Novak held it together nicely, despite being all over the shop.

Novak was up a break in 4 out of 5 sets. It was hardly on Stan's racquet. The first set was, both players were horrific dropping serve in that set though.Always felt Novak was in control despite the score so long as he didn't hit UE's all over the place. Serve was ordinary until the last set. Both players didn't serve great, although both are pretty good returners, with Novak and Murray the best two.

He was up a break constantly due to Stan's very high UE count. Neither found a groove. Stan attempted many winners, often too early in the rally in the first two sets. Djokovic defended as per usual, rarely going for a winner...but that's his style of play. When he comes up against a player like Wawrinka it's often going to be on his racquet...but to me it looked like it was Stan messing it up and not Novak pressuring Stan into errors.

Stan was at 38% serves in the 3rd...horrible. Novak lost the plot on serve as well. Just a very, very odd match.

Djokovic went for enough winners, however needs to lift against Murray although pushing should be enough to beat Murray anyway.Stan was going for ridiculous winners, that was because Novak pushed him out wide especially to the forehand which fell apart at crucial stages. Novak mixing it up helped in the long run too, made Stan use his energy.

Both players served badly.

He'll beat Murray in 3 or 4. Most of Stan's errors were due to lacking patience...and it built on top of that. You're right, he did enough...but Stan didn't do enough...Novak didn't hit a winner in the final set despite holding to love. Defence works when your opponent can't hold it together consistently.

Both men's and women's final are repeats of years gone by in Melbourne Park. Good to know that the next generation of elite players are here :sarcasm:
