he cant even get a game for NSW atm, plays for NSW Futures

He is on a 'management program'. Given that we are talking about 50 over cricket, he was in the most recent NSW 50 over team, and was the leading wicket taker in that series.

His absence from the NSW Shield team has been planned for some time. Got nothing to do with his spot in the NSW pecking order.

I know he is being "managed", so is Pattinson

I was watching the interview between Craddick and Imran in the lunch break in the Kiwis/Pakis game yesterday he he was asked bout fitness and Imran gave the Australian staff a bit of a sledge, he said the best way to get fit and stay fit was to bowl and bowl and bowl.

We have Pat Howard our so called "high performance manager"and yet we seem to have the most injured bowlers in the world so whatever we are doing just doesn't seem to be working for mine.

Wasn't it Wasim Twiz??? But he was bang on the money. He reckons he did heap of laps and then bowled 2 hours in the nets on his off days. The Aussie bowlers wouldn't be allowed to bowl that long in a week. Wasim very rarely broke down as well.

As true as that is for keeping fit as a bowler, it's a horrible way to recover from an injury....well, I say recover, but really if that's the solution you won't be recovering.

yeah, sorry Wasim

I mean how can they expect to get match fit when they are being rested all the time ?

A couple of times yeah. Still am in terms of my ankle, I'm still not really bowling full tilt regularly. I can't get through the crease with my full power. Don't get me wrong, I disagree with the resting policy as much as anyone for fit players, but I certainly agree with managing blokes back from injury. Throw a player straight back into bowling and he's just going to get hurt again. I'm not sure Wasims answer really took that side of bowling into account.

It's how bowlers should keep fit, absolutely. But IMO they're also 100% right to managing Patto and Cummins the way they are under the circumstances. The issue I have is when they are fit and they keep resting them

Yeah spot on Baz, when they are fit and bowling well keep them bowling

If we can get Patto and Cummins consistently playing with Haze and Starc it's arguably the best pace battery in world cricket.

And tbh, if a plod second grade all rounder like me can find 5 hours a week most weeks to send a few down in the nets, there really is no excuse for professional players not to be doing say ten hours if they haven't got a game that week. It just makes sense. You train for running by running a lot, you train for batting by batting a lot, why are they not training for bowling by bowling a lot.

Makes too much sense mate. Lee, DK, Wasim. They all say the same thing yet we have a clueless Yawnion Toff making the decisions. Plus ask the bowlers ffs, if they think they need a test fine but otherwise let them play while they are fit and bowling well.

They had Jeff Thomson on Inside Cricket couple of weeks back, and they asked him the same thing about fast bowlers. He just said they need to keep bowling wether in a game or in the nets, bowl bowl bowl. He basically said resting fit players is garbage. You play them, if they then break down then so be it, you wont die wondering otherwise

I remember when I played and the start of the season was always he toughest cause , well, It took me a good while to get the bowling fitness up, but after a few weeks of regular and conistent bowling, the rest of the summer was easier, bowled better and was "bowling" fit

Remember when Dougie was picked for an adelaide test vs the poms? with little to no bowling preparation? Was bowling mid 120s and looked out of puff after a couple of overs in a spell.

Rest him for all 3. It's the only way to make sure he stays fit....

Anyway based on the squad I'd like to see us pick

Warner
Finch
Smith
Bailey
Head
Faulkner
Wade
Starc
Cummins
Zampa
Hazlewood

Maxwell possibly unlucky to miss out but I think Faulkner is very important to the ODI side. Head can toss down a few overs if we need them, so can Finch.

I hope Cummins can find the swing he had at the beginning of his career, kid could bend it around corners, both ways

I'm not worried about his pace

I don't recall him being a prodigious swinger of the ball (though there were a couple of night sessions in his 1st Big Bash series where the ball was moving round for quite a few bowlers). He got the ball to go late at genuine pace. He certainly doesn't need to be flat out all the time, but he won't offer so much as a regular 135kmh bowler.
