Might as well start a thread of this Annual Match already.

Just meant it is a lot stronger than what they usually send up to PNG.
There are about 10 players on the list that played origin this year.
They don't send those caliber of players to PNG too often.

That is true. It's usually a "B-side". Most of these guys are A-side, or wouldn't look out of place. Well except for 6,7 and 9.

That's a great sign of respect as PNG certainly love their footy.

It's very close to the best side you can pick from non-finals clubs. Hopefully the Kumuls give them a good thumping haha

Looks like Mal is using this as his train on squad. They normally name a train on squad after the final round but this appears to be it, or thereabouts

yep, Mal is definitely using this a trial match for some of the player for the 4 nations later on in the year

Coach Marum was assistant to both Mal and Adrian Lam so would be good to see how they prepare their respective teams for this match.

Rod Griffin and Kato Ottio both out with season ending injuries, however even if they were fit, they'd be playing finals footy in the NSW ISP

Definitely a stronger team than usual. Last year included non origin players such as Wighton, Croker, Tyrrell, Peachey, Nofoaluma, Elgey, Segeyaro, Campbell-Gillard, Moeroa, Aitken, Latimore & Daniel Mortimer.
This year seems at least a step or two above that.....

just watched the commentary by Freddy and Adrian Friday Fever on NRL.com and Mal is definitely looking at these players to impress him both on and off the field for a spot in the 4 nations

given the limited # of test matches every year, this will be a good test for the Kumuls as well in prep for next year

I know it's mainly circumstantial but it's great to see such a strong Kangaroos lineup to take on PNG.

Kumuls will be stronger than last year as well with NRL and Hunter players out of finals contention so should be a good contest!

If the PNGRFL had seen this strong Australian selection before releasing the Kumuls Line up than I doubt that they would have picked so many Digicel Cup players and rested some key Hunters player.

In saying that it is probably a good test for a lot of the Digicel Cup players to try and force their way into the Hunters Team for next year.

Kato Ottio did that in 2014 and last year 2015 Justin Olam did the same. Kato ended up at the Raiders this year and had a great year with Mounties. And justin Olam is now on his way to the Melbourne Storm.
