Wheres the part that says the dangerous throw/lifting rule doesn't apply?

How can you lift someone who is already in the air? Anyway:

Section 15 Notes

Dangerous throw (d) If, in any tackle of, or contact with, an opponent that player is so lifted that he is placed in a position where it is likely that the first part of his body to make contact with the ground will be his head or neck (“the dangerous position”), then that tackle or contact will be deemed to be a dangerous throw unless, with the exercise of reasonable care, the dangerous position could not have been avoided

Exercising reasonable care does not mean waving an attacker through for a try just because they jump. Therefore, if an attacker jumps into them, the dangerous position is hard to avoid.

Appalling effort from the refs, if they're going to make up the the rules as they go they should at least try to be consistent.

Quite a few silly errors on both sides for a 1v2 clash, Roosters will be tough to beat come finals time though.

Go Storm!

Different scenarios, same principle.

Either the onus to not be involved in a dangerous tackle is on the defender, or it isn't.

Take your pick.

Well for starters they aren't the same principle at all because in one situation the player is taking a try-scoring opportunity and putting himself at risk to do so. God only knows what they're doing when they're somersaulting themselves.

I already took my pick btw and said it's not on the defender to ensure people don't somersault themselves, much like it's not on the defender to act as a runway controller for players taking a flight opportunity. The defender has every right to tackle him and he is not obliged to carry him to safety because the stupid merkin has put himself 4 feet in the air.

Can someone please clarify the hurdling rule. If Suli hurdles a player going for a low tackle on the tryline, do they pull it up?

He didn't jump into him. The storm player got to the contest late and deliberately clipped Ferguson's legs.

If Ferguson pulled a brain fart like the storm winger then yeah, unavoidable. But he made the choice to make that tackle the way it was done

Excellent clarification.

If only the NRL could be as consistent.....

Look there are accidents. But nothing Melbourne does is accidental. They are the embodiment of filth.

Saying that if Jack Friend doesn't go blind side with 5 mins to go, Melbourne probably don't score.
He is good for at least one poor decision a game and that one was expensive

He has a right to make a tackle. Who gets to the ball first is irrelevant. When all you can tackle is the legs, then yes getting him into a dangerous position is likely to be unavoidable.

If the rule was how you want it, all we would see is kicks to the corner because it is a guaranteed try every time since the attacker just has to jump and the defender can't touch him.

On another note, what a great game of footy.
So glad it was buried in the 5:30pm Saturday slot.
Your regular FTA viewer would much rather watch Bulldogs and/or Tigers than that

Terrible for the home viewers, but it's a great timeslot if you're attending the game. If the broadcasters keep burying Storm home games on Saturday afternoon I won't complain.

Holy shit I just saw the penalty try. Surely there's another angle I haven't seen? No way in hell you could award that! I'm not exaggerating when I say there have been 20 more deserving then that not given over the past 2-3 years

I think it is rightfully a penalty try. I believe the previous ones you talk about should have also been awarded. Last week that knights trip against the warriors was more deserving but both are penalty tries imo

Learn the rules.

Melbourne Storm - manufactured 1988. Just 21 years after the sharks were manufactured.

Hmm try again buddy, Melbourne Storm began in 1998 and Cronulla in 1967.

Typical Melbourne fan though, hope you enjoyed tonight's win.

Wrestlemania, Cam Ref Boss Smith getting in the refs faces, Grinding like a Starbucks, abusing grey areas/loopholes in the game, salary cap cheating, there is nothing these shameless snakes won't do to get an advantage.
Yep and your Broncos are cleanskins hey?
